(RV) Men's Soccer Back on The Road At Old Dominion

CCU looks for remain unbeaten in C-USA play

CONWAY, S.C. – Fresh off its second consecutive win, the (RV) Coastal Carolina men's soccer team returns to conference play and will face Old Dominion on Saturday. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. ET from the ODU Soccer Complex in Norfolk, Va.

Coastal heads into Saturday's contest 2-1-2 overall and unbeaten in C-USA play at 1-0-2, while ODU sits 2-2-0 overall and has yet to play a conference game.
 
 The Chanticleers recorded a convincing 4-0 victory over USC Upstate Tuesday night at the CCU Soccer Stadium. 
 
Coastal Carolina was awarded a penalty kick just two minutes in that Emile Rzepecki converted on to put the hosts up 1-0. Just 15 minutes later, Nicholas Itopoulos tallied his first career goal, a shot nearly 40-yards out that found the top corner of the net, increasing CCU's lead to 2-0.
 
Freshman Alvaro Garcia-Pasqual notched his fourth goal of the season in the 66th minute, connecting on a pass from Michael Fowler
 
Peter Dearle lept above the sea of Spartans in the 68th minute to send a Mads Poulsson corner kick towards the near post, where Marcello Jones tallied the Chants' final goal of the night.
  
SCOUTING THE MONARCHS
  • Old Dominion finished the unusual 2020-2021 season with an overall record of 1-4-3 and a 0-4-3 mark in C-USA play.
  • Defender Josh Thacker was named to the All C-USA Preseason Team before the 2021 season. Thacker was named the Conference USA Freshman of the Year, the All C-USA Second Team, and the All-Freshman Team. Thacker was also named the College Soccer News All-Freshman Second Team honoree. On top of his defensive recognitions, he was second on the team for goals, ranked third on the squad for points (2), as well as shots on goal (3).
  • The Monarchs welcome back, All-Conference USA Third Team selection Djibril Doumbia and a USA Defensive Player of the Week. Doumbia ranked 17th in the NCAA for saves per game (4.62) and 35th in DI for total saves (37). Ettore Casadei, a Conference USA All-Freshman team selection also returns for ODU, was the Monarchs' top goal scorer last season.
