(RV) Men's Soccer Remains Unbeaten with 1-1 Draw at ODU

NORFOLK, VA – The (RV) Coastal Carolina men's soccer team remains unbeaten in Conference USA play as they battled to a 1-1 double-overtime draw against Old Dominion Saturday night at ODU Soccer Complex.

With the draw, the Chanticleers are now 2-1-3 overall and 1-0-3 in conference play while the Monarchs are now 2-2-1 overall and 0-0-1 in C-USA play.

"I was proud of our guys again tonight," said head coach Shaun Docking. "They worked incredibly hard and earned another road point [in the conference] against a very good and well-coached team. We knew Conference USA was going to be extremely hard and I thought ODU played very well tonight."

Michael Fowler notched his first goal of the season and the Chants' only goal of the match in the 15th minute when we connected on a pass from teammate Marcello Jones. The Monarchs looked to answer in the 16th minute but the shot was saved by Joey Batrouni. The Chanticleers headed into halftime up 1-0.

ODU tied the match at 1-all, 14 minutes following the break, as the Monarchs' Eliot Goldthorp found the back of the net from nearly 40-yards out. The two teams battled the remainder of the match, but 90 minutes would not be enough.

Leon Schmidt earned back-to-back saves in the first overtime period to keep the match level at 1-all before Danny Cabrera's shot in the 98th minute was saved by ODU's goalkeeper. Alvaro-Garcia Pasqual looked to find the golden goal in the 108th minute, but his shot was saved.

Coastal Carolina tallied 10 shots, with five on frame while ODU took 18 shots – seven on frame. The Monarchs' also found the edge in corner kicks at 11-2, while the CCU recorded six saves to ODU's four.

The Chanticleers remain in Conference USA play and welcome Florida Atlantic to CCU Soccer Stadium on Tuesday, Sept. 21. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. ET in Conway.
