Coastal Travels to Georgia Southern and Georgia State for a Pair of SBC Road Matches

The Chanticleers have won the last 25 matches combined between the two SBC Georgia schools

CONWAY, S.C. – After starting the 2-0 to open up Sun Belt Conference play, the Chanticleer women's volleyball team (8-4 overall) looks to remain perfect in conference play this weekend as they travel to Georgia Southern and Georgia State this weekend.
 
Georgia Southern will host Chanticleers at Hanner Fieldhouse on Friday, Oct. 1 to open the second weekend of conference play. The first serve is scheduled for at 6 p.m. ET and will be shown on ESPN+. The following night, Oct. 2, CCU visits Atlanta to take on the Georgia State Panthers at the GSU Sports Arena with the match time scheduled for 7 p.m. ET.

LAST TIME OUT
  • Both Little Rock and Arkansas State had identical records of 9-3 going into the first weekend of Sun Belt Conference play, but CCU was able to pull out victories versus the two teams to jump into the top of the conference's east division.
 
SERIES HISTORY – GEORGIA SOUTHERN
  • Coastal Carolina is 20-2 all-time against the Eagles in the series that began in 1987.
  • The Chants have won the last 12 matches, including all three matchups in 2020. Anett Nemeth led Coastal in last year's series with 47 kills and 28 digs. Nemeth capped off the early November series with a 16 kills and 14 digs in the straight-sets win of GASO.
 
SERIES HISTORY – GEORGIA STATE
  • Coastal Carolina is 15-3 all-time against the Panthers the series that began in 1987.
  • The Chants have won the last 13 matches, including all three matchups on the road in 2020. Anett Nemeth led Coastal in the weekend sweep GSU with 43 kills and 19 digs. Setter Marija Borcic capped off the weekend series sweep with a career-high 41 assists
 
A GLIMPSE AT GEORGIA SOUTHERN
  • The Eagles are 9-3 overall and enter this weekend 2-0 in SBC play after wins against ULM and Louisiana.
  • GS topped ULM 3-1 and Louisiana 3-2 on the road last weekend, and freshman Ashlyn Lovett was named the Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Week after recording 53 digs in two matches, good for 5.89 per set.
  • The Eagles' current five-match win streak is their longest since 2013, and their 7-3 record in non-conference play is their best non-league record since 2013, when they went 15-3 in non-conference play.
  • Hannah McGlockton leads the Eagles' offense with 104 kills on the season. Her 3.06 kills per set places her just outside the top 10 of the conference.
  • Madison Brown became the seventh Eagle to surpass 2,500 assists for her career. The senior ranks sixth on the Georgia Southern all-time list with 2,596.
  • As a team the Eagles have held their opponents to a hitting percentage of .161, fourth-best mark in the SBC.
 
A GLIMPSE AT GEORGIA STATE
  • The Panthers are 3-9 overall and 0-2 in the SBC entering the second weekend of conference play.
  • Georgia State lost both matches last weekend at ULM and Louisiana in four sets.
  • Last time out in the weekend series in Louisiana, Erin Wyatt tallied her fourth double-double of the year with 10 kills and 16 digs in the loss to the Warhawks. The next night versus the Ragin' Cajuns Leah Wilcox recorded a season-high 15 kills.
  • Wyatt is the GSU offensive leader with 112 kills on the season, averaging 2.55 kills per set.
 
CCU IS PERFECT
  • Since 2019, the Chanticleers own a perfect record in conference road matches (10-0). The last time CCU lost on the road in the conference regular season occurred on Nov. 2, 2019 at Troy.
 
ON A ROLL VERSUS GEORGIA SCHOOLS
  • The Chanticleers have won the last 25 matches combined versus Georgia State and Georgia Southern.
  • The lost loss CCU suffered against a Peach State SBC school happened on Nov. 12, 2009 versus Georgia Southern.
 
EIGHTH TIME FOR BOZDEVA
  • Super senior Ani Bozdeva collected her seventh and eighth double-digit kill matches of the season last weekend in victories over Little Rock (14) and Arkansas State (17).
 
ANOTHER ONE BITES THE DUST
  • Ani Bozdeva is eighth in the Sun Belt Conference with 137 kills, while ranking sixth in the conference with 3.13 kills per set. Bozdeva is amongst the best in the conference when it comes to points on the year. Coming into the weekend the CCU outside hitter is fifth in the conference with 3.68 points per set. (154.5 points overall - ninth)
 
COUNTING DOWN TO 1000
  • Graduate transfer Doris Carter landed in the 1000-kill career club after recording a combined 46 kills in the wins over Arkansas State and Little Rock. The Lexington native carried the Chants to the 3-1 victory of the Red Wolves on Sept. 26 with a Coastal career-high 21 kills.
  • Since Carter achieved the milestone (1006) last weekend, eyes now will be on Ani Bozdeva (948), Ella Saada (943), and Cheyenne Jones (846)
 
CARTER IS TOP 10
  • Doris Carter is ranked in the top 10 of a pair of Sun Belt offensive categories in her first year with the Chants. The Lexington, Ky. native comes into the weekend fifth in the conference with 3.31 kills per sets and seventh with 3.64 points per set.
 
GOT THE 2000 AND MORE
  • Junior Brigitta Petrenko picked up her 2,000th career assist last weekend in the four-set victory of Arkansas State where she had a season-high 43 assists.
  • The Eger, Hungary native is 42 assists shy from tying Sam Skyrd ('14) with 2,067 dimes for eighth all-time in school history.
 
WEEKEND BLOCK PARTY
  • Teammates Nyla Shepherd and Ilse Sinnige rank 1st and 3rd respectively as the top blocking duo in the Sun Belt. The sophomore Shepherd enters the weekend averaging 1.14 blocks per set and the junior Sinnige averages 1.05.
