(RV) Coastal Takes Defending National Champs No. 7 Marshall to Double-Overtime Draw

Box Score HUNTINGTON, W.VA. – The (RV) Coastal Carolina men's soccer team took the defending national champions and No. 7 nationally-ranked Marshall Thundering Herd to a 3-3 double-overtime draw Saturday afternoon, headlined by Alvaro Garcia-Pasqual's two-goal brace.

With the draw, Coastal Carolina is now 0-1-2 overall and 0-0-2 in C-USA play while Marshall is now 1-1-1 overall and 0-0-1 in C-USA play.

Freshman goalkeeper Joey Batrouni's save in the sixth minute gave sight to what would be a game full of shots in Huntington. Just eight minutes later, Marshall tallied its first goal of the match in the 14th minute. Coastal Carolina answered in the 20th minute as Garcia-Pasqual recorded his first goal of the match connecting with the bottom corner of the net.

CCU took the lead in the 32nd minute, 2-1, as Marshall tallied an own-goal. Just three minutes later, Marshall tied the contest as Jan-Erik Leinhos tallied the equalizer for the Herd. The two teams would head into the locker room tied at 2-2.

Following the break, both teams looked to break the scoreline but it was Marshall who found the advantage in the 74th minute. Garcia-Pasqual tallied his second goal of the day, to earn his first career brace, just four minutes later in the 78th minute as he connected on a pass from Emile Rzepecki to tie the match at 3-all. It was Batrouni's save in the final seconds of regulation that was the difference maker and kept Marshall off the board.

The first overtime period saw both the Chanticleers and Herd look to find the golden goal but neither was unable to convert and forced a second overtime. The match would end with neither team being able to find the much-needed goal.

In a match that saw six goals and six yellow cards, Coastal Carolina tallied 12 shots while Marshall found the advantage taking 16. The host would also find the advantage of shots on goal at 9-8. Both goalkeepers tallied six saves over the 110 minutes.

The Chants now prepare to face C-USA and in-state foe South Carolina Saturday, Sept. 11 in Columbia, S.C.
