CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina men's soccer team (3-3-6, 0-0-5 Sun Belt) returns to the pitch when the Chanticleers host Old Dominion (6-4-2, 3-1-1 Sun Belt) Sunday at 7 p.m. ET at the CCU Soccer Stadium.
COASTAL VS. OLD DOMINION
Sunday night's match will mark the seventh all-time meeting between the Chanticleers and Monarchs dating back to 2002. CCU holds a 4-1-1 lead in the series. The Sun Belt Conference contest will be only the second time the two teams will have played in Conway, with the Chanticleers scoring a 3-2 win at home in 2016.
The contest will be the second time the teams have faced each other as conference members. Last season, both teams were members of Conference USA, while this year both are members of the Sun Belt.
LAST TIME OUT
Coastal Carolina battled No. 2 Kentucky to a scoreless draw in Lexington, Ky. While the Wildcats outshot CCU 15-3 overall and 4-1 in shots on goal, the Chanticleer defense held up to the task in the shutout draw.
Joey Batrouni has become a solid force in goal for CCU and picked up four saves in helping to preserve the shutout.
CHANT TALK
Alvaro Garcia-Pascual has 16 points on the season to lead the Chants and is tied for the lead in the Sun Belt Conference. His seven goals are tied for second in the conference as is his 1.33 points per game average.
The Chants have six total draws on the season, one shy of the program record set back during the 2009 season.
SCOUTING THE MONARCHS
ODU is presently second in the conference standings with 10 total points, just two points behind conference-leader Kentucky. The Monarchs enters Sunday's contest having gone 4-2-1 over their past seven contests, including back-to-back wins at No. 6 Marshall (2-1) and a home victory over South Carolina (1-0).
Tristan Jenkins leads ODU in scoring with 11 points on five goals and one assist. Louis Beckett, Michael Eberle, and Jonas Schmalbach have all scored seven points each.
