Conway, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina beach volleyball team will open the 2022 season this weekend as the Chanticleers will head to Jacksonville, Fla. to participate in the Dolphins Duels on Feb. 25-26 hosted by Jacksonville University.
Coastal is one of six schools that will be a part of the inaugural first season for Conference USA Beach Volleyball that will get underway this spring.
Coach
Steve Loeswick's squad will return a lot of familiar faces this season that Chant fans would know in graduate student
Kalin Eske, juniors
Carli Ginther,
Irena Drobnjak,
Madison Allred, and
Sarlota Svobodova, as well as sophomores
Ellie Hanford,
Sarah Riedell,
Emma Gonzalez,
Elena Sanchez, and
Martine Kragholm.
The Chants looked for quality depth and they found it in transfers
Natalie Honzovicova, a graduate transfer from Grand Canyon,
Alyssa Eske, a junior from Illinois, and
Madie Lichty, a sophomore from FGCU, as well as highly-touted freshman
Raychel Ehlers.
The Sandy Chants also stayed on campus and went indoors to pick up
Jelena Prolic from the indoor women's volleyball team at Coastal.
The Chants hold a 9-4 overall record against the tournament field, as they have a 3-0 record against Erskine, are 1-0 against Saint Leo, and have a 5-4 advantage over the host Jacksonville. They will also battle Palm Beach Atlantic for the first time on day two of the Dolphin Duels.
Saint Leo enters the weekend at 3-1 overall. They participated in a tri-meet at Lake Sumter State College where they defeated the host team Lake Sumter along with Webber International and Warner.
Palm Beach Atlantic enters the weekend at 2-0 overall after they defeated Webber International and Saint Leo in the same tri-meet.
Like Coastal, Erskine will be kicking off its 2022 slate this weekend in Florida.
