CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina women's lacrosse team continues its season-opening six-game road trip as the Chanticleers will travel to Radford, Va. to battle the Radford Highlanders on Friday, Feb. 25, before traveling into the Tar Heel state to take on the Elon Phoenix on Sunday, Feb. 27.
The Chants opened the season with a 13-8 road loss at Davidson and are 0-1 on the year, while the Highlanders enter play 0-2. Elon (0-2) will host SEC member Vanderbilt on Friday, Feb. 25 before welcoming CCU.
COASTAL vs. RADFORD HISTORY
Coastal Carolina holds a 2-0 advantage in the overall series with the Chanticleers having earned a 17-3 win in the last meeting on Feb. 17, 2021, in Clover, S.C.
COASTAL vs. ELON HISTORY
The Phoenix hold a 7-0 lead over Coastal in the overall series with Elon having defeated CCU 16-4 win in the last meeting on March 13, 2021, at Brooks Stadium on the campus of Coastal Carolina University.
ABOUT COASTAL
The Chants are led by
Lauren Cremen (3 goals),
Avery McIlwaine (2 goals), and
Abi George (2 goals), while
Kayla Downey and
Hannah Demis have added three and two assists, respectively.
Defensively, Coastal goalkeeper
Claire Martell faced 26 shots and made six saves in the season opener, while
Monica Manley caused two turnovers.
ABOUT RADFORD
The Highlanders have tallied 15 goals in two matches with Margaret Gleason and River Rupert leading the team with three goals each. Ashlyn Grogan (2 assists), Gleason (1 assist), and Linley Tirrell (1 assist) have the four assists for Radford on the year.
On the defensive end, Olivia Hunter has made 25 saves while allowing 16.5 goals per game. As a team, RU has caused 18 turnovers with Rupert and Josie Helpard having caused four apiece.
ABOUT ELON
The Phoenix's Gillian Curran has recorded seven goals to lead the offensive attack for Elon with Bella Feldmann adding four goals of her own. Elon has tallied four assists as a team with Curran, Feldmann, Cierra Hopson, and Mikaela Buoscio recording an assist.
Defensively, Paige Brown and Chloe Herghelegiu have split time at goal with Brown making seven saves and allowing 21 goals, while Herghelegiu has made five saves and allowed 24 goals. In two games, the Phoenix has caused 11 turnovers with Kailee Follette and Lyndsey Morhardt having two apiece.
