JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Coastal Carolina beach volleyball closed out its first weekend of play unbeaten, as the Sandy Chants went 2-0 on day two of the Dolphin Duels on Saturday in Jacksonville, Fla.
The Chanticleers went 4-0 on the weekend with wins over Erskine and Saint Leo on Friday and Palm Beach Atlantic and host Jacksonville on Saturday.
Coastal Carolina 3, Palm Beach Atlantic 2
Coastal overcame a 1-0 deficit and picked up a huge win on court No. 3 with the team score tied at 2-2 to come away with a 3-2 win over Palm Beach Atlantic in the Sandy Chants' first match on Saturday.
PBA took an early 1-0 match lead with a three-set, 21-18, 14-21, 15-13 win on court No. 2 before the Chanticleers' team of
Carli Ginther and
Emma Gonzalez tied the match up at 1-1 with a 21-17, 15-21, 15-10 win over Bailey Myott and Emma Vann on court No. 4.
The Chants pulled ahead 2-1 in the match with a 21-16, 21-15 win at court No. 5 by the tandem of
Madison Allred and
Raychel Ehlers over Karla Cantero and Julia Golichowski.
After a 21-16, 21-16 win for PBA at the top flight tied the match up at 2-2, it came down to the match on court No. 3 where the duo of
Ellie Hanford and
Natalie Honzovicova defeated PBA's Gabriella Aziz and Abigail Mason 21-16, 21-15 to give the Sandy Chants the 3-2 match win.
Coastal Carolina 5, Jacksonville 0
CCU capped off the weekend with a 5-0 shutout win over host Jacksonville on Saturday evening.
The team of
Sarah Riedell and
Madie Lichty started the match off with a 21-14, 21-10 straight-set win over Emily Kubicsko and Sydney Eckhardt on court No. 2 followed by a
16-21, 21-18, 15-13 three-set win by Ginther and Gonzalez over Marissa Raskauskas and Rina Mitchell on court No. 4 to go up 2-0 in the match.
After the top flight of
Irena Drobnjak and
Martine Kragholm posted a 21-18, 21-12 on court No. 1, the Chants completed the sweep with a 21-14, 21-14 straight-set win by Ehlers and Allred on court No. 5 and a 21-7, 21-15 dominant win by Hanford and Honzivicova on court No. 3.
The Sandy Chants (4-0) will look to continue their hot start to the season when they return to action next weekend at the UNF Invitational in Jacksonville, Fla.
