Coastal to Host In-State Foe Winthrop on Friday

Coastal Carolina women’s lacrosse returns to the road against Vanderbilt on March 27

CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina women's lacrosse team will return to action on Friday, March 18, when the Chanticleers host in-state foe Winthrop in Conway, S.C., on the Surf Turf inside Brooks Stadium. The opening draw is scheduled for noon ET.
 
The Chanticleers snapped a three-game skid to improve to 3-4 on the year with an offensive burst in the 22-10 win over William & Mary last Wednesday. The Eagles enter play with a 1-5 record on the season having dropped their last outing last Saturday.
 
COASTAL vs. WINTHROP HISTORY
 
The two teams have met nine times with Winthrop holding an 8-1 advantage in the overall series. However, the Chanticleers picked up their first win in the series at 12-9 on Feb. 20, 2021, in Rock Hill, S.C.
 
ABOUT COASTAL
 
The Chants are led by Hannah Demis with 17 points on five goals and 12 assists, while Lauren Cremen (13 goals, 3 assists) and Kayla Downey (9 goals, 7 assists) follow just behind with 16 points each. Avery Snyder (18) and Avery McIlwaine (17) have been key in getting the offense started by winning a combined 35 draw controls.
 
Defensively, Coastal goalkeeper Claire Martell has faced 184 shots and made 60 saves on the season, while Marissa Munson has caused eight turnovers. Claudia Kelly and Cremen have chipped in defensively with seven and five caused turnovers, respectively.
 
ABOUT WINTHROP
 
Winthrop is led by Alyssa Angelo with 17 goals, while Ellie Dutton and Molly Dankowski have nine and eight goals, respectively. The Eagles' Angelo is leading the team with four assists, while Krystal Beebe (14) and Kimora Bailey (10) lead the team with a combined 24 draw controls.
 
On the defensive end, Elise Palmer has started all six matches between the pipes and has made 74 saves while facing 214 shots. Dankowski has helped stop the opponents' offense from scoring by causing seven turnovers, while Kelsey Johnson (13), Lauren Asher (12), and Angelo (9) have grabbed a combined 34-of-87 ground balls.
