CONWAY, S. C. - The Sandy Chants would go perfect on the final day of the Coastal Carolina Invitational on Sunday, blanking the Jacksonville State Gamecocks 5-0 in both matches.
With the Sunday sweep, the Chanticleers improved to 4-0 on the weekend and 15-4 overall. The Chanticleers have now won seven straight matches.
Match 1: Coastal Carolina 5, Jacksonville State 0
In the first match of the day, the duo of
Carli Ginther and
Raychel Ehlers defeated the pair of Bethany Randall and Carley Lynch 21-3, 21-12.
Emma Gonzalez and
Madison Allred would follow with a three-set victory over the No.4 pair of the Gamecocks 22-20, 21-16 to put the home team up 2-0.
The match would be clinched at the second flight by
Ellie Hanford and
Natalie Honzovicova, as the tandem swept the Gamecocks duo of Peyton Pauze and Taylor Thomas 21-12, 21-15.
Madie Lichty and
Elena Sanchez would follow with a three-set victory at 21-15, 15-21, 15-6 before the top flight of
Martine Kragholm and
Sarah Riedell secured the sweep with a 21-18, 19-21, 15-9 win.
Match 2: Coastal Carolina 5, Jacksonville State 0
In the second match of the day, the Chants would not drop a set the entire match in the 5-0 win.
the Chants raced out to a 2-0 lead by way of wins from Ginther and Ehlers at court No. 5 winning in straight sets 21-7, 21-10, while Allred and Gonzalez followed with a win by the identical score of 21-11 at No. 4.
Honzovicova and Hanford improved to 18-1 on the year by earning a 21-19, 21-12 straight-set victory over Lena Kindermann and Erin Carmichael at No. 3 to give the Sandy Chants the win.
Lichty and Sanchez would dominate the Gamecocks duo of Pauze and Thomas 21-12, 21-14 on court No. 2, while closing out the weekend was the pair of Kragholm and Riedell who upended the Gamecocks top flight of Kylee Quigley and Claire Ochs to secure CCU's second sweep of the day.
The Sandy Chants will be back in action next week in Florida, as they will take part in the Stetson Beach Bash hosted by Stetson University on March 26-27.
