Chanticleers to Travel to Nashville to Take on the Commodores

Coastal Carolina women’s lacrosse returns to Brooks Stadium against Jacksonville on April 1

CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina women's lacrosse team will return to action on Sunday, March 27, when the Chanticleers travel to Nashville, Tenn. for a matchup against the Vanderbilt Commodores. The opening draw is scheduled for 2 p.m. ET at Vanderbilt Stadium
 
The Chants enter the week with a 4-4 overall record while on a two-game winning streak, after picking up a pair of wins over William & Mary and Winthrop last Wednesday and Friday, respectively. The Commodores are currently 6-3 on the year with wins over Liberty, Elon, and nationally ranked Notre Dame. Vanderbilt is currently receiving votes in the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association poll.
 
COASTAL vs. VANDERBILT HISTORY
 
The two teams have met just once with Vanderbilt picking up an 11-7 win over the Chanticleers, on March 12, 2017.
 
ABOUT COASTAL
 
The Chants are led by Kayla Downey with 22 points on 11 goals and 11 assists, while Hannah Demis (5 goals, 14 assists) and Lauren Cremen (14 goals, 4 assists) follow just behind with 19 and 18 points, respectively. Avery McIlwaine (19), Avery Snyder (18), and Abby Cooper (13) have been key in getting the offense started by winning a combined 50 draw controls.
 
Defensively, Coastal goalkeeper Claire Martell has faced 192 shots and made 66 saves on the season, while Marissa Munson has caused nine turnovers. Claudia Kelly and Cremen have chipped in defensively with seven and five caused turnovers, respectively.
 
ABOUT VANDERBILT
 
Vanderbilt is led by Bri Gross with 20 goals, while Karlie Bucci and Callie Sundin have 14 goals each. The Commondores' Gabby Fornia is leading the team with 26 assists, while Gross (40), Megan Mangines (22), and Kayla Rieu (19) lead the team with a combined 79 draw controls.
 
On the defensive end, Paige Gunning has started all nine matches between the pipes and has made 66 saves while facing 230 shots. Melissa Hawkins has helped stop the opponents' offense from scoring by causing 19 turnovers, while Gunning (22), Gross (18), and Hawkins (15) have grabbed a combined 55-of-151 ground balls.
