Coastal Baseball to Host Undefeated Wake Forest on Tuesday

First pitch is set for 4 p.m. ET

CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina baseball team will continue its run against Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) opponents this week, as the Chanticleers are set to host Wake Forest on Tuesday, March 8, at 4 p.m. ET at Springs Brooks Stadium.

CHARTING THE CHANTS
• Coastal Carolina enters the midweek contest at 7-5 overall and 7-1 at home at Springs Brooks Stadium this season.
• The Chanticleers have dropped four-straight contests entering Tuesday's game versus Wake Forest with a midweek loss last week at UNCW (March 2) and three losses on the road at North Carolina last weekend (March 4-6).
• This season, the Chants are 0-1 in midweek action, with the lone contest a 9-4 loss on the road last Wednesday at UNCW (March 2).

DIALING IN ON THE DEMON DEACONS
• Wake Forest is off to an 11-0 start to the 2022 season.
• Tuesday's game at Coastal Carolina is the first road game of the season for the Demon Deacons, who are 11-0 at home on the year.
• The Deacs have scored double-digit runs in six of their 11 games this season, including a season-high 25 runs in the 25-3 season-opening win over Lafayette (Feb. 18).
• Wake leads the nation with a .381 team batting average, ranks second in base hits with 151, second in home runs with 27, third in scoring with 12.2 runs per game, and third in runs scored with 134.

ALL-TIME SERIES
• Coastal Carolina holds a 26-16 advantage in the all-time series with the Demon Deacons, which dates back to 1977.
• After not playing from 1987 to 2006, the two teams have played each other every year since minus the 2012 season.
• Coastal has won seven-straight games over Wake Forest after the Deacs swept the two-game regular-season series in 2017.
• The Chanticleers' longest winning streak over the Demon Deacons is eight consecutive wins from April 8, 2009, to March 31, 2015.

VERSUS THE ACC IN 2022
• The Chants are 0-3 versus teams out of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) thus far this season, having suffered a three-game weekend series sweep to nationally-ranked North Carolina last weekend (March 4-6).
• Following this week's game, CCU is slated to play four more games versus ACC foes in NC State (March 16), Clemson (March 22), Wake Forest (March 30), and Clemson (May 17) again.

HOME. SWEET. HOME.
• Coastal enjoyed #ThePalace for the first eight games of the season and for the month of February.
• After playing four games on the road in the first week of March - at UNCW (March 2) and North Carolina (March 4-6) - the Chanticleers will return home for a five-game homestand versus Wake Forest (March 8) and a four-game weekend series against Xavier (March 11-13) this week.
• The Chanticleers are 7-1 at home this season.

UNPLEASANT ROAD TRIP
• Last week, the Chanticleers took their first road trip of the season playing at UNCW (March 2) and at North Carolina (March 4-6) over the weekend.
• The road was unkind to the Chants, as CCU went 0-4 overall, which included a pair of walk-off losses at then-No. 21/24 North Carolina.
• Last season, Coastal was just 11-12 in true road contests and 12-13 in games away from #ThePalace of Springs Brooks Stadium in Conway, S.C.
• This year, the Chants are 0-4 on the road.

MISERABLE MARCH
• The month of March has been miserable thus far for the Chanticleers in 2022.
• After going 7-1 in February, the Chants are 0-4 to start the month of March.
• So far this month, CCU has been outscored 21-10 and lost two games in walk-off fashion in the final inning, including in extra innings on Sunday, March 6, at North Carolina.

SEVEN
• Coastal Carolina will face a familiar foe in Wake Forest on Tuesday night, a foe that the Chanticleers like to see at Springs Brooks Stadium.
• Entering Tuesday's matchup, the Chants have won seven consecutive games over the Demon Deacons with five of those seven wins coming at home in Conway, S.C.
• The Chants' current streak of seven-straight wins over Wake Forest is just one win shy of the longest winning streak of the series, as CCU won eight-straight games over the Demon Deacons from 2009-15.

MULTIPLE CHANTS WITH MULTIPLE-HIT GAMES
• Coastal's offense has totaled 31 multi-hit games this season by way of 11 different Chanticleers.
• CCU juniors Eric Brown and Dale Thomas lead the way with five multi-hit games each on the season, while three Chants in Austin White, Nick Lucky, and Matt McDermott all have four multi-hit games in 2022.
Kameron Guangorena, Cooper Weiss, and Zack Beach all have two multi-hit games this year.

QUALITY STARTS
• The Chanticleers' starting pitchers have recorded four quality starts already this season over the first 12 games of the year.
• Transfer right-handed pitcher Michael Knorr (1-0) has recorded a quality start in both of his two starts this season, throwing 6.1 innings versus Kent State (Feb. 20) and firing off 6.0-complete innings in the win over Ball State (Feb. 27).
• Fellow upperclassman Reid VanScoter (1-1) has thrown two quality starts in each of his last two outings, throwing 7.0-complete innings in the win over Illinois (Feb. 26) and striking out a career-high eight hitters in 6.0-complete innings in the loss at then-No. 21/24 North Carolina (March 5).
• Last year in 2021, CCU had five quality starts all year long.
* a quality start is a statistic for a starting pitcher defined as a game in which the pitcher completes at least six innings and permits no more than three earned runs
