Play in the second round was suspended due to darkness
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Coastal Carolina University men's golf team shot a two-under 282 to open play at the Lewis Chitengwa Invitational Monday afternoon at the Birdwood Golf Course. The Chanticleers moved into the second round in fifth place before play was suspended with several players still on the course due to darkness.
Tyler Gray and Garrett Cooper led a solid first round for the Chanticleers as each finished the round at one-under par. Gray completed his score with a 34 on the front nine of a par-35 and finished with an even-par 36 on the back nine. Cooper picked up his one-under score with a 37-33.
Connor Newton and Trace McDonald each carded an even-par 71. Newton struggled on the front nine with a 38, but was able to turn that around with a three-under 33 on the back nine. McDonald picked up his score with 16 pars, one birdie, and one bogey in the opening round. Seth Taylor finished his round at five-over 76 (38-38).
When play was suspended, the host Virginia Cavilers were in the top spot at 12-under, while Charlotte and Tennessee were only one stroke back at 11-under. North Florida at 10-under and Kentucky at seven-under rounded out the top five spots.
The conclusion of the second round is set to tee off Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. ET with the third and final round to begin immediately after the second round is completed. Live stats can be found at Golfstat.com, with a link to the live stats page also at www.GoCCUSports.com.
