CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina women's lacrosse team will return to ASUN play at home this week for a contest against the Liberty Flames with the opening draw scheduled for noon ET on Saturday, April 16.
The Chanticleers are 5-8 on the year and 1-1 in the ASUN, having dropped their last contest against the Virginia Tech Hokies last Wednesday at home.
The Flames enter play with an 8-6 record and 2-0 mark in conference play, including a pair of non-conference losses to Vanderbilt and Richmond earlier this season.
COASTAL vs. LIBERTY HISTORY
Wednesday's contest will be the 10th meeting between the two teams with Liberty holding a 6-3 advantage in the overall series. The Flames claimed a 14-13 road victory over the Chanticleers in the last meeting on April 10, 2021, recording their third straight victory in the series.
ABOUT COASTAL
The Chants' scoring attack is led by
Lauren Cremen (22 goals),
Avery McIlwaine (18 goals),
Kayla Downey (17 goals), and
Megan Bozzi (15 goals), while
Abi George and
Avery Snyder each have added 12 and 11 goals, respectively.
Hannah Demis and Downey are the top two assist leaders for the Chants with 18 and 16 assists, respectively, while three Chants in Snyder (31), McIlwaine (25), and
Abby Cooper (21) have combined for 77-of-168 draw controls to start the offensive attack.
Defensively, Coastal goalkeeper
Claire Martell has faced 339 shots and made 112 saves on the season.
Marissa Munson has caused 11 turnovers, while
Claudia Kelly,
Avery Whitehead, and Snyder have chipped in with 10, seven, and seven caused turnovers, respectively. Martell (22), Munson (15), and Kelly (12) have scooped up 49-of-163 ground balls so far this season.
ABOUT LIBERTY
The Flames are led by Mackenzie Lehman with 32 goals, while Jordan Baerga and Brooke Bryan have contributed with 29 and 22 scores, respectively. Liberty's Jordan Sheive leads the team with 12 assists with Baerga adding 10 assists on the season. Lizzy Ferguson and Lehman get the offense started having won 53 and 49 draw controls, respectively.
On the defensive end, Jennifer Soriero has started 13 of the 14 matches between the pipes and has made 77 saves for a .367 save percentage. Alexa Evernham and Hannah Quast have helped stop the opponents' offense from scoring by causing 27 and 23 turnovers, respectively, while Mia Toscano (37), Quast (33), Evernham (31), and Soriero (30) have grabbed a combined 131-of-288 ground balls.
