No. 4 Chants to Open ASUN Tournament Against Top Seed Jacksonville

Coastal Carolina women’s lacrosse to return to ASUN Championship Tournament for the first time in three years

CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina women's lacrosse team will return to action on Thursday, May 5, when the Chanticleers travel to Jacksonville, Fla. to play the nationally ranked No. 20 and ASUN top-seeded Jacksonville Dolphins. The opening draw is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET at Rock Field.
 
The Chants enter tournament play with a 6-10 overall record after their three-game losing streak with a 23-13 road win at Stetson to close out the regular-season schedule. The Dolphins are 11-4 on the year with their 3-of-4 losses coming at the hands of No. 2 North Carolina, No. 15 Notre Dame, and No. 9 Florida. Jacksonville is currently ranked No. 23 in the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association poll.
 
COASTAL vs. JACKSONVILLE HISTORY
 
The two teams have met nine times with the Dolphins owning a 7-2 advantage in the overall series. However, Jacksonville avenged the 2021 overtime loss to the Chanticleers with an impressive 18-5 win in Conway, S.C. earlier this season.
 
ABOUT COASTAL
 
The Chants are led by Kayla Downey with 43 points on 25 goals and 18 assists, while Hanna Demis (10 goals, 28 assists) and Lauren Cremen (31 goals, 6 assists) follow just behind with 38 and 37 points, respectively. Avery McIlwaine (34), Avery Snyder (33), Hannah Close (22), and Abby Cooper (22) have been key in getting the offense started by winning a combined 111 draw controls.
 
Defensively, Coastal goalkeeper Claire Martell has faced 421 shots and made 135 saves on the season, while Avery Whitehead has caused 12 turnovers. Marissa Munson and Claudia Kelly have chipped in defensively with 11 and 10 caused turnovers, respectively.
 
ABOUT JACKSONVILLE
 
Jacksonville is led by Sarah Elms with 54 goals, while Jenny Kinsey and Molly Brock have 43 and 22 goals, respectively. The Dolphins' Grace Hobson leads the team with 20 assists, while Brock (91), Casey Sullivan (29), and Megan Prescott (29) lead the team with a combined 149 draw controls.
 
On the defensive end, Paige Pagano has started seven of the 15 matches between the pipes and has made 80 saves while facing 164 shots. Sullivan has helped stop the opponents' offense from scoring by causing 18 turnovers, while Sullivan (22), Beth Cornelius (18), and Hailey Blachly (16) have grabbed a combined 56-of-222 ground balls.
