CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina men's tennis team will look to continue its hot start to the 2023 spring season with a road match at South Carolina State on Thursday, Jan. 26, at 1 p.m. ET at the Hardeep Judge Tennis Center in Orangeburg, S.C.
The Chants are 2-0 this spring season, having swept The Citadel in a doubleheader on Jan. 16 in Charleston, S.C. Coastal defeated the Bulldogs 6-1 and 5-1 in non-conference play.
South Carolina State is 2-2 this season with wins over The Citadel and Benedict College. The Bulldogs, who are 1-0 on their home court this season, are coming off a 4-3 loss to William & Mary on Jan. 21.
In doubles play this season, the Chants have three pairs -
Steve Mundt and
Carlos Berna Ruiz,
Ryuya Ata and
Maj Tomac, and
Guilherme Toresan and
Lucas Wayenburg - that are all 1-0 on the season, having all won in the first match of the twin tilt versus The Citadel.
In singles play, CCU's Mundt and Tomac each went 2-0 to start the spring season, winning each of their bouts in the doubleheader versus The Citadel Bulldogs, while fellow teammates Berna Ruiz,
Rivers Cahill,
Neil O'Connor, and Toresan are also undefeated at 1-0.
First-year Chants Ata and Wayenburg split their two singles contests versus The Citadel to enter this week's contest at South Carolina State at 1-1 on the year.
