Chanticleers to Travel to No. 1 Marshall

CONWAY, S.C. –  The Coastal Carolina men's soccer team will take on its second ranked opponent of the season in No.1 Marshall on Oct. 13. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. ET in Huntington, W.Va.

Chant Talk
  • CCU has a 3-4-3, 1-1-2 Sun Belt record on the year.
  • The Chants have played 65 ranked opponents in program history and have a 26-31-8 record.
  • This is the second time that Coastal has played a school ranked No. 1 in the nation. The last time this happened was in November 2011 when CCU fell to North Carolina 3-2.
  • Coastal has a 7-15-4 record versus opponents ranked in the top 10.
  • Evan Howard is now tied for first on the team with two goals on the season. Deryn Armstrong also has two goals and has tallied two assists to put him atop the team with six points.
  • CCU keeper Kilian Vallant tied his career-high six saves for the fourth time in the season versus the Kentucky Wildcats on Oct. 7.
Last Time Out
  • Coastal fought back to a 1-1 draw versus the reigning 2022 Sun Belt champions Kentucky on Oct. 7.
  • The Chants were outshot 19-8 and the Wildcats led 6-0 in corner kicks.
  • Kentucky was first to strike in the opening frame when Isaiah Chisolm netted the first goal in the 19th minute off an assist from Max Miller.
  • CCU answered back in the 30th minute when Howard was dragged down in the box to give the Chants a penalty kick. Howard then buried the ball into the bottom left corner to level the score at 1-1.
  • The CCU defense held strong in the closing stages of the match as it fended off nine shots in the final 15 minutes to secure the 1-1 tie.
History Against
  • The Chants have a 1-0-2 all-time record versus Marshall.
  • CCU has tied the last two matchups with Marshall including a 3-3 draw when the Thundering Herd were ranked seventh in the nation in September 2021.
  • Coastal has outscored the Thundering Herd 7-4 over its three contests.
  • CCU's lone win came in its first meeting in September 2002 when the Chants took a 4-1 victory.
  • The Chants will look to pick up their first away win and improve on their 0-0-1 road record.
 
Scouting the Opponent
  • Marshall has a perfect 11-0-0, 4-0-0 Sun Belt record and is ranked No. 1 in the nation.
  • The Thundering Herd are in the top 10 in the NCAA in 11 categories. These include scoring offense (2.91), assists per game (2.91), points per game (8.73), save percentage (.871), shots per game (16.36), shots on goal per game (6.91),  shutout percentage (.636), team goals against average (.364), total assists (32), total goals (32), and total points (96).
  • Mathew Bell is ninth in the nation in total points (20), 19th in total assists (6), and 28th in total goals (7).
  • Former Chant Alvaro Garcia-Pascual has notched four goals and three assists for the Thundering Herd but he is not the only offensive threat for the Chants as Marco Silva sits on seven goals, Adam Aoumaich is on five, and Pablo Simon has three.
  • Marshall has more than tripled CCU's goal count on the year scoring 32 goals to Coastal's nine.
  • The Thundering Herd have conceded just four goals on the season and keeper Gabriel Perrotta has made 26 saves off 88 shots faced.
