Men’s Soccer Welcomes Third-Straight Ranked Opponent in No. 5 WVU

CONWAY, S.C. - The Coastal Carolina men's soccer team will take on the No. 5 West Virginia Mountaineers at CCU Soccer Stadium on Oct. 22 at 7 p.m. ET.
 
Chant Talk
  • CCU has a 3-6-3, 1-3-2 Sun Belt record this season.
  • No. 5 WVU is the third-straight-ranked opponent the Chants have played this year.
  • This is the first time in Coastal's history the Chants have played three consecutive matches against teams ranked in the top-five in the NCAA.
  • Killian Vallant is four saves away from 50 career saves and places 16th in the nation with 4.60 saves per game.
  • The Chants are undefeated when scoring two or more goals and have a perfect 3-0 record in one-goal games.
Last Time Out
  • Coastal dealt with a 5-0 shutout loss to the No. 2 UCF Knights in Orlando, Fla., on Wednesday night.
  • The Chants dominated in the opening 15 minutes and held the Knights to one goal in the first half.
  • The UCF offense ignited in the second period tallying four goals in the 46th, 52nd, 68th, and 69th minutes.
  • Coastal keeper Alex Hare made his second appearance in the Teal and Bronze and recorded a career-high eight saves.
  • Noe Santos took Coastal's lone shot on goal in the 56th minute but it was handled swiftly by the UCF keeper.
History Against
  • CCU has a 1-3-2 all-time record versus West Virginia.
  • The Chants tied 0-0 with WVU during the 2022 regular season but the Mountaineers put an end to CCU's 2022 season when they earned a 1-0 victory in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament.
  • Coastal's lone win versus WVU came in September of 1993 when they downed the Mountaineers 5-0.
  • The Chants will be looking to secure their first home win versus WVU.
Scouting the Opponent
  • West Virginia has a 10-0-4, 3-0-3 Sun Belt record and places third in the Sun Belt.
  • Last time out, WVU handed No. 1 Marshall its first loss of the season when they downed the Thundering Herd 5-2. The Mountaineers scored three goals in the span of two minutes and Marcus Caldeira bagged a hattrick in the match.
  • WVU places second in the Sun Belt with 30 goals and a 2.143 scoring average.
  • Caldeira leads the Sun Belt with 12 goals and is tied for fifth in the nation with four game-winning goals.
  • Yataro Tsuada will also pose a threat to the CCU offense as he leads the conference with 26 shots on goals and is tied for first with nine assists. 
  • The Mountaineers' three ties came against Georgia State (Sept. 30), Loyola (Oct. 4), and James Madison (Oct. 8).
