Karg ties for the individual championship

SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Coastal Carolina University women's golf team finished third at The Southern at 38-over 902 (296-302-304) at the Savannah Golf Club in Savannah, Ga.

Hannah Karg was the standout Chanticleer over the two days of action, finishing the event tied for the individual championship with a final score of three-over 219 (72-76-71). Her one-under 71 in Tuesday's final round was the best round of the day for the Chants and one of the top scores of the third round. It's her first individual title as a Chanticleer.

Karg was among the field's leaders with eight total birdies and 35 pars over the 54-hole event.

Another first-year Chant, Varatkarn Kunkaew, had a top-five finish as her six-over 222 (69-77-76) had her tied for fifth. Kunkaew had a team-best 11 birdies over the event to go along with 30 pars.

Sara Sarrion finished tied for 25th after carding an 11-over 227 (76-76-75), while Luisa Gibson tied for 41st with a 19-over 235 (79-73-83).

Isabella Spinazze finished tied for 57th with a 27-over 243 (81-80-82), and Carolina Hortian finished 62nd at 38-over 254 (85-86-83).

Host Georgia Southern took home the championship with a 25-over 889 (299-292-298), five strokes in front of Western Kentucky at 30-over 894 (304-290-300). Augusta finished two stokes behind CCU in fourth place with a 40-over 904 (312-294-298), and Campbell rounded out the top five with a 41-over 905 (307-296-302).

Missouri (313-295-298) and Xavier (310-296-300) tied for sixth at 42-over 906, with Charleston Southern finishing eighth with a 47-over 911 (308-302-301). Jacksonville State (+60, 924), FAU (+62, 926), and Sacred Heart (+64, 928) completed the field.

The Chanticleers have one more fall event that is scheduled for Oct. 30-31 at the Hurricane Invitational, hosted by Miami (Fla.) at the Biltmore Golf Course in Miami, Fla.
