Wilmington, N.C. – The Coastal Carolina men's tennis team began its final tournament of this year's fall season today at the UNCW Seahawk Invitational in Wilmington, N.C.
Last time out, the Chants finished their turn at the ITA Carolina Regionals in Cary, N.C. after three days of tournament play. Seniors Carlos Berna Ruiz and Lucas Wayenburg were the standout performers, making it to the second round of 32 in the main singles draw after opening round victories.
Today, CCU started day one with a doubles matchup against host UNC Wilmington. The Chants went 2-2 against the Seahawks, as the pairings of Guilherme Toresan and Jesus Garcia and Rivers Cahill and Wayenburg each added to their doubles season win tally.
Following their opening round split with UNCW, Coastal capped off day one with a singles matchup against Boston College. The Chants nearly swept the Eagles, taking five of six, with Berna Ruiz, Toresan, Ryuya Ata, Garcia and Wayenburg all picking up another singles win.
The UNCW Seahawk Invitational will continue tomorrow at 10 a.m. ET, as Coastal takes on Boston College in a doubles match.
