Chants Welcome Kentucky to Conway

CONWAY, S.C. –  The Coastal Carolina men's soccer team will host Kentucky on Oct., 7 at the CCU Soccer Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. ET.

Chant Talk
  • CCU has a 3-4-2, 1-1-1 Sun Belt record on the year.
  • The Chants thrive when the pressure is on and have a perfect 3-0-0 record in one-goal games this season. They also are undefeated when they score first.
  • Killian Vallant remains atop of the Sun Belt and is 28th in the NCAA with 4.38 saves per game.
  • Coastal has had seven different players tally an assist this season, and Deryn Armstrong leads the team with two goals and two assists. Armstrong is also tied for second in the Sun Belt with two game-winning goals.
  • Doug Hainer surpassed Armstrong and now leads the team with 11 shots. The transfer sophomore has scored one goal and recorded one assist on the season.
Last Time Out
  • Coastal was dealt a 3-1 defeat by the Old Dominion Monarchs last Saturday in Norfolk, Va.
  • The Chants conceded its quickest goal of the season when William Arnesen scored the first goal of the match in the second minute of action.
  • ODU's Micheal Eberle followed this up with another goal in the sixth minute to put the Chants down 2-0.
  • One more goal came for the Monarchs in the 21st minute to end the first half 3-0 while CCU was held to just one shot. 
  • Coastal scored its lone goal in the 69th minute when Ewan Gordon scored his first goal while wearing the Teal and Bronze off an assist from Eythor Kjartansson.
  • The Chants were the aggressors in the second period leading 8-7 in shots and 5-3 in corner kicks but ultimately couldn't recover from the 3-0 deficit.
History Against
  • CCU has a 1-2-2 all-time record versus the Wildcats.
  • Coastal's lone win came in its first matchup in September 2002, when the Chants took a 2-1 victory.
  • Last time out, the teams played to a 0-0 draw at the Wendell & Vickie Bell Soccer Complex in Lexington, Ky.
  • This is just the second time that Coastal has played Kentucky at the CCU Soccer Stadium, the first match resulted in a 0-0 tie.
Scouting the Opponent
  • Kentucky has a 3-6-1, 0-3-0 Sun Belt record on the season.
  • The Wildcats won the 2022 Sun Belt Tournament Championship and reached the third round of the NCAA College Cup last year.
  • UK started the season ranked third in the nation but have now fallen into unranked status.
  • The Wildcats snapped their four-match losing streak in their last matchup versus Indiana, which resulted in a 1-1 tie.
  • UK keeper Casper Mols ranks second in the Sun Belt with 4.14 saves per game just behind Coastal's Vallant, who has 4.38 saves per game.
  • Logan Dorsey leads the team with three goals on the year and defender Max Miller is atop of the team with four assists.
