CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina softball team (8-1) will host its third home tournament at St. John Stadium this weekend at the Chanticleer Showdown, Feb. 24-26.
 
Coastal welcomes Saint Joseph's, UAlbany, and Mount St. Mary's to Conway, S.C., for the Chanticleer Showdown.
 
Chanticleer Showdown

• CCU began hosting the Chanticleer Showdown event in 2017, making this the seventh year of action.
• This will be UAlbany and Mount St. Mary's first appearance at the Chanticleer Showdown. Saint Joseph's attended the tournament for the first time in 2018.
• Coastal will open the tournament against UAlbany on Friday at 2:30 p.m. ET.
• The Chanticleers have dominated in the previous Chanticleer Showdown events posting a 19-6 overall record versus nineteen different opponents.

 
Scouting the Opponents
UAlbany

• This is the Great Danes' 2023 season-opener.
• UAlbany went 25-17 in 2022, recording a .284 batting average and a 2.94 ERA.
• Starting pitcher Wendi Hammond posted a 14-9 win/loss record and tallied 103 strikeouts during her time in the circle last year.

Saint Joseph's

• The Saint Joseph's Hawks enter the weekend with a 0-4 overall record, falling to Boston University, Illinois State, Boston College, and the University of South Florida.
• The Hawks have registered just four runs and 12 hits in their first four games.
• Sophomore Kaelin Cash leads the team with a .286 batting average, scoring one run and driving in an RBI from her seven at-bats.

Mount St. Mary's

• This is Mount St. Mary's first fixture of the 2023 season.
• The Mount lost their starting pitcher from 2022. Junior Olivia Murphy is the most likely candidate to pick up this role. Murphy registered a 2.38 ERA and 35 strikeouts in 82.1 innings of work in 2022.
• Fellow junior Abigayle Perry led the team with seven home runs, five triples, eight doubles, and a total of 33 runs last year.
• Keep your eyes peeled for Bridgette Gilliano as her speed allowed her to steal 39 bases from 40 attempts in the 2022 season.

 
History Against

• CCU has fallen to Saint Joseph's in each of the last three meetings, dropping the Chants' record to 2-3 versus the Hawks.
• The Chanticleers have only faced UAlbany twice in their history. The last encounter was in 2013 when the Chants cruised to an 8-0 victory on the Great Dane's soil.
• The Coastal Carolina softball team has the most history versus Mount St. Mary's with the first match-up dating back to 1994. The Chants are undefeated in all seven meetings with the Mount.
• The Chanticleers have the most recent history against Saint Joseph's. CCU fell 11-6 to the Hawks five years ago in the 2018 Chanticleer Showdown.
