CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina beach volleyball team will open the 2023 season in Tallahassee, Fla., as the Sandy Chants are set to compete in the Seminole Beach Bash on Feb. 25-26 hosted by Florida State University.
The Chanticleers are one of eight teams competing in the inaugural season of beach volleyball in Sun Belt Conference.
Coach
Steve Loeswick returns 11 players from last year's team, including
Raychel Ehlers who was named to the 2022 Conference USA All-Freshman team.
Irena Drobnjak,
Martine Kragholm, and
Sarah Riedell, who all saw action in the No. 1 flight last season, also return this season.
Also returning for the Chanticleers is
Lucy Campbell, Ellie Hanford,
Elena Sanchez,
Sarlota Svobodova,
Emma Gonzalez,
Alyssa Eske, and
Madie Lichty as they will mix in freshmen
Sydney Schwanbeck,
Emma Kunaus, and
Celia Ryan.
Coastal also stayed on campus and nabbed
Lina Perugini and
Lauren Malone from the indoor women's volleyball team.
CCU holds an 0-4 record against the tournament field, as the Sandy Chants are 0-4 versus Florida International and will be battling FSU, Cal Poly, and Washington for the first time over the two days.
