No. 20 Beach Volleyball Sweeps EKU and Catawba on Sunday
Allred and Ehlers finished undefeated at the CofC Classic

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Sandy Chants wrapped up the CofC Classic in Charleston, S.C., with a pair of wins, as the No. 20 Coastal Carolina beach volleyball team swept both the Eastern Kentucky Colonels and Catawba Chiefs 5-0 on Saturday, March 11.

Coastal Carolina improved to 9-6 overall on the season, while the Colonels dropped to 8-3 with the loss and the Chiefs fell to 5-8 with their loss.

Match 1: No. 20 Coastal Carolina 5, Eastern Kentucky 0
In the Chants' opening match, the team of
Madison Allred and
Raychel Ehlers staked the Sandy Chants to the early 1-0 lead on court No. 4 with a 21-15, 21-12 straight-set win.

Coastal Carolina increased its advantage to 2-0 on court No. 2, as the duo of
Elena Sanchez and
Ellie Hanford defeated Paityn Walker and Hannah Keating 21-19, 25-23, while the tandem of
Sarlota Svobodova and
Madie Lichty won 21-17, 21-16 on court No. 3 to clinch the match for the Chants.

The Chanticleers'
Sarah Riedell and
Martine Kragholm gave CCU a 4-0 lead with a 21-15, 21-13 win over Shannon Stone and Sarah Mitchell on court No. 1.

Meanwhile, on court No. 5,
Lucy Campbell and
Emma Gonzalez won with identical 21-16, 21-16 sets over EKU's Arilyn Lee and EK Lonergan for the Coastal Carolina 5-0 sweep.

Match 2: No. 20 Coastal Carolina 5, Catawba College 0
After sweeping the EKU Colonels, Coastal jumped to the early 1-0 lead on Catawba, as Hanford and Sanchez dispatched Morgan Childress and Kelcie Love 21-9, 21-14 in straight sets on court No. 2.

Coastal took control of the match to lead 2-0, with Campbell and Gonzalez winning big over Molly Mather and Kimberly Kimbro 21-14, 21-6 over on court No. 4. The Sandy Chants clinched the match on court No. 3, as Ehlers and Allred finished the weekend undefeated with a straight-set 21-16, 21-7 win for the 3-0 advantage.

On court No. 1, the tandem of Kragholm and Riedell defeated Christina Knotts and Raytchelle Miranda 21-8, 21-16 for a 4-0 lead, while Coastal's
Emma Kunaus and
Celia Ryan finished the Chants' second sweep of the day with identical scores of 21-8, 21-8 for the 5-0 win.

The No. 20 Sandy Chants return to the court on Saturday, March 18, at 10 a.m. ET for a doubleheader against Tusculum in Conway, S.C.
