DELAND, Fla. – The Coastal Carolina Sandy Chants split a pair of contests versus the No. 17 Stetson Hatters and No. 14 Florida Atlantic Owls at the Cooper Beach Volleyball Courts on the campus of Stetson University in Deland, Fla.
 
The Chants fell to the host Stetson 4-1 but bounced back to upend FAU 3-2.
 
The win over No. 14 FAU was the third win of the season for the Chants over a nationally-ranked opponent this season.
 
Coastal Carolina improved to 13-7 overall on the season and got back on the winning track after having their seven-match winning streak snapped.
 
Match 1: #17 Stetson 4, Coastal Carolina 1
In the first of the two matches on the day, the Chants fell behind early to the Hatters as the team of Emma Gonzalez and Lucy Campbell was defeated in straight sets by identical scores of 21-12, 21-12 to Tori Clement and Gabriella Bramante on court No. 5.
 
On court No. 4, the tandem of Raychel Ehlers and Madison Allred saw their seven-match winning streak snapped with a 25-23, 21-17 loss to Klea Sirois and Lauren Della to put the Hatters up 2-0. The Hatters clinched the match on court No. 2, as Carolina Ferraris and Anete Namike claimed a 21-15, 21-18 win over the team of Elena Sanchez and Ellie Hanford.
 
Despite the Sandy Chants losing the match, the duo of Sarlota Svobodova and Madie Lichty dispatched Audrey Gauthier and Noelle Weintraub 25-23, 21-17 on court No. 3 to give the Chanticleers their only win.
 
Meanwhile, the Chanticleers' Sarah Riedell and Martine Kragholm dropped a three-set battle (19-21, 21-18, 15-11) with Karin Zolnercikova and Shae Henson for the final margin of 4-1.
 
Match 2: Coastal Carolina 3, # 14 FAU 2
In their second match of the day, the Sandy Chants fell behind early 1-0, as FAU's Stephanie Young and Logan Mignerey dropped Emma Kunaus and Celia Ryan 21-11, 21-17.
 
However, Coastal's Ehlers and Allred (18-21, 21-19, 15-11) used all three sets to even the match at 1-1 with a win over Marketa Svozilova and Ashleigh Adams on court No. 4, while Sanchez and Hanford fell 21-15, 21-14 to Emma Grace Robertson and Jillienne Cloud on court No. 2 as Coastal trailed 2-1.
 
The Sandy Chants evened the match on court No. 3, as Svobodova and Lichty finished the day with a 10-21, 25-23, 15-11 win over Courtney Moon and Julie Honzovicova.
 
With the score knotted 2-2, Coastal's Kragholm and Riedell completed the comeback with a 21-17, 16-21, 15-8 three-set win on court No. 1 for the 3-2 win.
 
The Sandy Chants return to the court on Saturday, March 25, as CCU will battle North Alabama at 8 a.m. ET and Florida Gulf Coast at noon ET to wrap up the Stetson Beach Invitational in Deland, Fla.
