WILMINGTON, N.C. – The Coastal Carolina University's men's golf team shot a two-over 290 in the first round of the Seahawk Intercollegiate on Sunday at the Country Club of Landfall to finish the first day of competition in 11th place.
The second round was suspended due to darkness and will be completed Monday morning before the start of the third and final round.
Owen Kim led the Chants in the first round with a one-under 71 (33-38). Kim finished the first round going three-under on his final eight holes of the round. He had four birdies, including three consecutive on holes four through six. He was tied for 24th after the first round.
Seth Taylor (39-33) and
Connor Newton (37-35) each finished the opening 18 holes at even par. Taylor had three birdies and the team's lone eagle on the par-4 11th hole, while Newton tied Kim for team-high honors in birdies with four. The duo were tied for 35th moving into the second round.
Tyler Gray was tied for 60th after carding a three-over 75 (37-38), while
Trey Crenshaw was tied for 80th after his six-over 78 (41-37)
TCU and Stetson finished the first round tied at the top of the leaderboard at 10-under 278. Host UNCW was third at six-under 282, which is one stroke better than James Madison and Charleston Southern at five-under 283.
Only four strokes separate the next six teams led by Campbell at two-under 286. Clemson and USC Upstate are tied just one stroke back at one-under 287. Wright State is ninth at even-par 288, with Davidson at one-over 289, just one stroke in front of the Chanticleers.
Rounding out the field are Francis Marion (+7, 295), Maryland, Georgetown, and Toledo at eight-over 296, and Appalachian State at 11-over 299.
Monday's action is scheduled to tee off at 8:30 a.m. ET. The completion of the second round will begin the day's action followed by the third and final round. Fans can follow the live scoring at
