Chants are now 4-0 in Sun Belt play

CONWAY, S.C. – Despite the match being moved up two hours to 8 a.m. ET due to incoming inclement weather and rain later in the day, the Coastal Carolina women's team continued its winning ways with a 6-1 win over Texas State in Sun Belt Conference play on Sunday at the Stevens Tennis Complex.

With the win, the Chants have won 12 consecutive matches and improved to 12-4 overall and 4-0 in the Sun Belt on the season.

CCU has protected its home court this year, as the Chants are 9-1 at the Stevens Tennis Complex in Conway, S.C., with all nine wins coming after a home-opening loss to Charleston Southern back on Feb. 14.

Opening up with singles play due to the incoming inclement weather, the Chants quickly scored three consecutive straight-set wins to take an early 3-0 lead in the match.

Lilie Steryous dominated in her match on court No. 6, winning 6-1, 6-0 over Sofia Fortuna, while both Jesse Hollins and Anna Babayan followed with identical 6-2, 6-1 straight-set wins on courts No. 5 and No. 2, respectively, to push the home team in front 3-0.

CCU's Tatum Burger secured the match win for the Chants with a 7-5, 6-3 straight-set win over Andrea Pineda on court No. 4 to keep the team's winning streak alive with 12-straight victories.

At the No. 1 spot, Victoire De Samucewicz downed Kiana Graham in straight sets 6-2, 6-1 to extend the lead to 5-0 before the Bobcats' Emily Niers held off Megan Hopton for a 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) win on court No. 3 to spoil the Chants' sweep attempt.

With the singles victories on Sunday, Hollins extended her winning streak to nine consecutive matches, while Babayan pushed her streak to five-straight wins. Both Steryous and Burger kept their singles winning streaks alive, with both now having won four straight matches.

The Chants capped the 6-1 win with the doubles point for the 14th time this season and for the 12th-straight match.

Hollins and De Samucewicz won 6-2 on court No. 3 to prolong their winning streak to nine-straight wins, while the duo of Babayan and Hopton was victorious with a score of 6-3 on court No. 1 to move to 14-2 on the season and extend their doubles' wins streak to 12 consecutive matches.

Coastal will continue Sun Belt Conference play with a pair of road matches next weekend at South Alabama (April 1) and Southern Miss (April 2). The Chanticleers will not return home to April 14 when they will host Old Dominion at 10 a.m. ET.
