CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina women's lacrosse team will remain on the road, as the Chanticleers will travel to Kennesaw, Ga., to take on the Kennesaw State Owls in the ASUN season opener for both teams on Friday, March 31.
Coastal enters the contest at 6-3 overall following a convincing 24-12 road win over the Campbell Fighting Camels in its last outing, while the Owls enter play at 1-8 on the year and riding an eight-game skid.
COASTAL vs. KENNESAW STATE HISTORY
The Chanticleers lead the all-time series with the Owls at 9-1 and are 4-0 on the road versus Kennesaw State. In the last meeting, however, Coastal Carolina fell 16-14 at home to the Owls in April 2022.

The CCU offense is led by
Kayla Downey (30 goals, 20 assists) with 50 points, while
Avery McIlwaine (18 goals, 11 assists),
Avery Snyder (6 goals, 13 assists), and
Hope Steuerwald (17 goals, 1 assist) are close behind with 29, 19, and 18 points, respectively. The offense has been ignited by
Devin Rybacki and McIlwaine, as the duo has won 38 and 24 draw controls each.
Defensively, the Chants are anchored by their starting goalkeeper
Claire Martell, who has started all nine contests. The redshirt junior goalie has stopped 68 shots and allowed 74 goals in almost 445 minutes in the cage on the season.
Claudia Kelly has forced nine turnovers, while Martell has grabbed 20 groundballs to help return possession back to the offense.

Kennesaw State is led by Hannah Barth (15 goals, 14 assists), Caroline Farley (17 goals, 4 assists), and Mia MacKenzie (11 goals, 9 assists) with 29, 21, and 20 points, respectively. Shannon Harrington (17 goals, 2 assists), Hannah Davis (15 goals, 4 assists), Jaxsyn Schonewille (11 goals, 6 assists), and Natalie Welch (5 goals, 7 assists) have chipped in offensively. Bailey Wilson often gets the offense started by winning 93 draw controls for the Owls to lead the team.
Defensively, KSU has split time with goalies Julia Weiss and Errin Crowe both playing in all nine contests. Weiss (57 goals allowed, 46 saves) and Crowe (55 goals allowed, 25 saves) have combined to allow 112 goals and make 71 saves in the 253 shots faced. Lauren Dobbs leads the team with nine caused turnovers, while Dobbs (14) and MacKenzie (14) have scooped up a combined 28 groundballs.
