Coastal and Boston to Meet for First Time on Tuesday

Women’s lacrosse is led by Downey with 17 points

CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina women's lacrosse team will host the Boston Terriers on Tuesday, March 7, at Brooks Stadium on the campus of Coastal Carolina University. The opening draw is scheduled for noon ET in Conway, S.C.
 
Coastal enters the week 2-2 overall after snapping a two-game skid with a 16-7 win over the VCU Rams in its last outing last Sunday, while the Terriers enter play at 5-0 on the year.
 
COASTAL vs. BOSTON HISTORY
 
The Chanticleers and Boston University will be meeting for the first time. The Terriers are the first of six opponents the Chants will face for the first time this season.
 
ABOUT COASTAL
 
The CCU offense is led by Kayla Downey (10 goals, 7 assists) with 17 points, while Avery McIlwaine (10 goals, 2 assists) and Hope Steuerwald (10 goals) are close behind with 12 and 10 points, respectively. The offense is ignited by McIlwaine and Devin Rybacki, as the duo has won 16 and 15 draw controls each.
 
Defensively, the Chants are anchored by their starting goalkeeper Claire Martell, who has stopped 27 shots and allowed 32 goals in almost 190 minutes between the pipes on the season. Claudia Kelly and Bethany Bruck have forced four turnovers and grabbed four groundballs to help return possession back to the offense.
 
ABOUT BOSTON
 
Boston is led by Jennifer Barry (12 goals, 8 assists) with 20 points, while Claire Gola (12 goals, 7 assists), Tobey Tick (11 goals, 6 assists), Maddie MacMaster (9 goals, 4 assists), Lauren Kaye (7 goals, 5 assists), and Hannah Tillier (6 goals, 6 assists) have added double-digit points. Barry often gets the offense started by winning 46 of the 92 Terrier draw controls to lead the team.
 
Defensively, Boston's goalie Reilly Agres has started in all five contests having allowed 36 goals and made 34 saves in the 95 shots faced. Gola leads the team with 11 caused turnovers, while Gola and has scooped up a team-high 14 groundballs.
