Women’s Tennis has won five-straight matches

CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina women's tennis team extended its winning streak to five-straight wins on a sunny Tuesday morning in Conway, S.C., as the Chanticleers defeated Mount St. Mary's 6-1 at the Stevens Tennis Complex.

With the win, Coastal improved to 5-4 overall on the season. With the loss, The Mount fell to 1-4 on the spring ledger.

Protecting their home court, the Chanticleers took an early 1-0 match lead with back-to-back wins on courts No. 3 and 1 in doubles play.

The duo of Victoire De Samucewicz and Jesse Hollins blanked The Mount's Ana Alvarez-Storni and Adriana Barney 6-0 on court No. 3, while on court No. 1, the team of Megan Hopton and Anna Babayan remained hot with a 6-2 win over Bella Pescatore and Amber Policare.

In singles action, junior Isabella Weatherhead cruised to a 6-2, 6-0 straight-set win over Ryan McCarthy of The Mount on court No. 6, while graduate transfer Tatum Burger won handily in straight sets 6-0, 6-3 on court No. 3 over Shirley Liang to put the Chants in front 3-0 in the match.

CCU's Hopton secured the match win for the Chants with a 6-1, 6-3 dominating win on court No. 2 over Policare to put the score at 4-0 in favor of the home team.

Fellow super senior Lilie Steryous defeated The Mount's Alvarez-Storni in straight sets 6-1, 6-2 on court No. 5, while Hollins followed with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Pescatore on court No. 4 to keep the shutout intact.

However, in perhaps the best match of the day, The Mount's Victoria Papadopoulou was able to hold off CCU's Babayan in a back-and-forth contest on court No. 1 by a score of 1-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-8) to spoil the Chants' shutout bid and put the final score at 6-1.

Coastal will remain at home to host the Liberty Flames on Thursday, March 9, at 10 a.m. ET.
