CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina men's tennis team earned the No. 8 seed and will open up the 2023 Sun Belt Conference Men's Tennis Championship on Wednesday, April 19, versus the No. 9-seeded Southern Miss Golden Eagles in Peachtree City, Ga. The match is set for a 2 p.m. ET start time.
The Chanticleers finished the regular season at 10-12 overall and 1-7 in Sun Belt Conference play. The Golden Eagles enter the tournament at 7-14 overall and 1-7 in league action.
Coastal and Southern Miss played each other on March 16, as the Chanticleers defeated the Golden Eagles 5-2 at home at the Stevens Tennis Complex in Conway, S.C.
In the win, the Chants won the doubles point with victories on courts No. 1 and 3, while four Chants in
Carlos Berna Ruiz (No. 1),
Maj Tomac (No. 3),
Guilherme Toresan (No. 5), and
Neil O'Connor (No. 6) were victorious in singles play to secure the win.
Leading the Chants into the championship tournament is Berna Ruiz with a team-high 10 singles wins on the season, while three other Chants in
Ryuya Ata, Toresan, and Tomac have each tallied eight wins this spring.
The winner will take on the No. 1 seed South Alabama on Thursday, April 20, at 2 p.m. ET.
The first-round match will be streamed live on ESPN+.
