JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Coastal Carolina men's and women's track & field teams combined to turn in a total of 13 personal-best marks, highlighted by six times that broke into the Chanticleers' outdoor track & field all-time performance list on day one of the East Coast Relays on Friday at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville, Fla.
Day 2 of the East Coast Relay hosted by the University of North Florida will start tomorrow at 11 a.m. ET.
Women's Team
The Coastal women's team had five top-10 finishes, nine personal best marks, and four Chanticleers write their names into the record books with top-10 times on Friday at the East Coast Relays.
In the 200-meter dash, junior
Kayla Sweeney turned in a time of 23.41 (1.2), which is the fourth-best time in CCU's history and good enough to place her in fifth place overall, while fellow Chant
Alexis Glasco finished 10th overall with her time of 23.81 (-0.5), which is the seventh-fastest time on CCU's all-time performance list. Both times are also personal-best marks.
The other two performances that ranked in the Chanticleers' top 10 came in the 1500-meters, as junior
Molly Jones placed ninth with her personal-best time of 4:30.25 and redshirt sophomore
Ellie Wolski finished 11th with her best time of 4:33.40. Jones' mark was the fourth-best time in CCU's annals, while Wolski's time ranks 10th all-time.
The other Chants to record personal-best marks on Friday were
Lauren Gordon (24.60 (1.6)) and
Sydney Clemens (24.60 (0.6)) in the 200-meter dash,
Lauralyn Clifford (51.14m) in the hammer throw,
Olivia Lee (3.20m) in the pole vault, and
Mia Lewis (5.55m) in the long jump.
Men's Team
On the men's side, both
Garrett Wilkins and
Deondre Hardy etched their names into the Coastal all-time performance list in the 200-meter dash.
Wilkins turned in a personal-best time of 21.18 (-0.2), which placed him 17th overall and was tied for the fourth-fastest time in CCU history, while Hardy finished 21st overall with his personal-best and the 10th-best time in CCU's record book at 21.37 (2.1).
Hurdler
Tyler Graves posted a third-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles with his time of 51.61, while thrower
Michael Martello finished ninth in the hammer throw with a new personal-best distance of 47.23 meters.
Also scoring a top-10 finish for the Men in Teal was
Ethan Blackwelder in the 3000-meter steeplechase with his time of 9:43.60, while fellow Chant
George Werner Jr. finished one spot behind Blackwelder in 11th place with his personal-best time of 10:07.20.
