CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina men's tennis team will wrap up its regular-season road slate this weekend with a pair of Sun Belt Conference matches in the state of Virginia. CCU will take on James Madison on Saturday, April 8, and then turn around to face off with No. 68 Old Dominion on Sunday, April 9.
The Chanticleers are 10-8 overall this season and 1-3 in Sun Belt Conference play, having dropped each of their last three matches, which all came in conference play.
Four Chants are all tied with a team-high eight singles wins on the season in
Maj Tomac (8-3),
Guilherme Toresan (8-5),
Ryuya Ata (8-7), and
Carlos Berna Ruiz (8-8).
In doubles play, head coach
Chris Powers has sent out nine different pairs in the spring season, with the duo of Tomac and Ata sitting at 5-2 overall at the No. 2 spot and
Steve Mundt and Berna Ruiz leading the way at 4-3 at the No. 1 position.
Like the Chants, James Madison enters the weekend at 10-8 overall but is 2-4 in its first season in the Sun Belt Conference.
The Dukes are 4-2 at home this season and are coming off a 5-2 road win at Southern Miss last Sunday, April 2.
No. 68 nationally-ranked Old Dominion will be the third nationally-ranked top-75 program that the Chanticleers have played in dual match action this season.
The Monarchs are 13-9 overall and 5-1 in league action in their first year as a member of the Sun Belt Conference.
ODU is riding a two-match winning streak into the weekend, with road wins at Southern Miss (April 1) and Louisiana (April 2) last weekend.
The Monarchs have won five of their last six contests, including a 4-2 win at home over No. 69 Georgia Southern (March 26). Their lone loss was a 4-2 defeat at home to No. 68 Liberty (March 29).
