Men's Basketball to play in the 2023 Myrtle Beach Invitational

Chants to appear in the MBI for the second time

CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina men's basketball team will be one of the eight teams scheduled to play in the 2023 Myrtle Beach Invitational, ESPN Events announced on Thursday afternoon.

Joining the Chants in the eight-team invite will be the College of Charleston, Furman, Liberty, St. Louis, Vermont, Wichita State, and Wyoming.

The 2023 Myrtle Beach Invitational will take place from Nov. 16-17, with the championship played on Sunday, Nov. 19. All games will be played at the HTC Center on the CCU campus in Conway, S.C.

The MBI is an early-season NCAA Division I tournament, which features a bracket format of 12 games over three days, with each team playing in one game per day regardless of the results.

Besides the Chants, the field will feature three 2023 NCAA Tournament teams. The College of Charleston lost to San Diego State in the first round, while Furman upset Virginia in the first round of the tournament before losing to eventual runner-up San Diego State. Vermont fell to No. two seed Marquette in the first round.

It will be the second time the Chanticleers will be playing in the MBI as CCU played in the 2019 event where they went 2-2 in the event, defeating MTSU (93-72) in a non-bracketed game and Utah (79-57) before falling to Baylor (65-77) and Mississippi State (56-81).

2018 was the inaugural MBI with the past winners, including UCF (2018), Baylor (2019), Utah State (2021), and UMass (2022). The event was canceled during the 2020 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

All MBI games will be televised across the ESPN platforms. The bracket and times will be released at a later date.
