CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina men's tennis team began the CCU Battle at the Beach today at the Stevens Tennis Complex, as it looks to continue its strong start to the new season.
The Chants opened their home tournament against Wofford in doubles play, going 3-0 against the Terriers. The Chanticleer duos of Ryuya Ata and Carlos Berna Ruiz continued their unbeaten run thus far in the 2023 season, claiming yet another doubles victory by a score of 6-2. Lucas Wayenburg and Goncalo Ferreira and Rivers Cahill and Guilherme Toresan also picked up wins over Wofford, taking their doubles matches 6-4 and 6-3, respectively.
The Chants then faced off against College of Charleston in singles play. CCU went 5-2 on the day in singles play, with three of those wins coming against the Cougars. Seniors Ata, Ferreira, and Jesus Garcia each recorded another singles win.
Coastal capped off the opening day with a rematch against Wofford, this time in singles match against Wofford. Wayenburg and Cahill both picked up a singles win, with Cahill recording his first of the season.
Day two at the CCU Battle at the Beach starts tomorrow at 8:30 a.m. ET.
