CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina women's basketball team will start the month of December by hosting the Jacksonville State Gamecocks on Saturday, Dec. 7, at the HTC Center. The opening tip is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET.
HISTORY BETWEEN COASTAL AND JACKSONVILLE STATE
This is the sixth meeting between Coastal Carolina and Jax State with the Gamecocks holding a 3-2 advantage in the all-time series. However, this is just the third meeting between the programs since both moved to the DI level. Jacksonville State picked up an 84-72 win last December in Jacksonville, Ala.
ABOUT COASTAL
Coastal Carolina jumped back into the win column the last time out, as the Chanticleers knocked off the Coker Cobras 82-63.
Savannah Brooks scored 20 points to lead the Chants offense despite sitting for nearly 16 minutes in the opening half. Brooks was aided by
Alancia Ramsey (19) and
Jayden Marable (16), as both scored in double figures.
The offense is led by Brooks with 16.7 points per game and Ramsey with 10.7 points per contest, as the duo are the only Chants scoring in double figures.
Kristin Williams (8.8),
Jayden Marable (8.5), and
Mallory Bruce (8.0) are scoring 8.0 points per game or better.
Defensively, the Chanticleers have forced 152 turnovers on the young season. Brooks leads the team with 19 steals with Marable swiping the ball 13 times. Ramsey and Brooks lead the team with 6.7 and 5.3 rebounds per game, while
Riley Stack has blocked 16 shots early this year.
ABOUT JACKSONVILLE STATE
The Jacksonville State Gamecocks are 4-2 on the year, having picked up wins over South Carolina State and UAB before falling to SEC member Missouri.
The Gamecocks are led by Mya Barnes with 10.0 points per game each, while Bre'Anna Rhodes and Asia Barclay are averaging 9.2 and 9.0 points per contest, respectively. Elsie Harris leads the team with 19 assists on the season.
On the defensive side, Jax State has forced 18.0 turnovers per game while outrebounding its opponents 41.5-36.7. Rhodes and Barclay are the top rebounders for the Gamecocks grabbing 6.3 boards per game each, while Barnes leads the team with 10 blocks on the year.
