LEESBURG, Fla. -The Coastal Carolina softball team (4-2) dropped its first games of the season to the Liberty Flames 2-1 and the Kansas Jayhawks 4-1 in Leesburg, Fla., on Thursday.
Game 1: Liberty 2, Coastal 1
 The Chants were first to strike in the top of the second inning when Delaney Keith ripped a single to center field to drive in Brie Normandin and give Coastal a 1-0 lead.
The Flames answered back in the bottom of the fourth when a single from Sierra Kersten and a double from Hailey Deter put runners on second and third base. Liberty's Rachel Craine then knocked an RBI single into left field to level the score at 1-1. KK Madrey immediately followed this with an RBI groundout to push the Flames in front at 2-1.
CCU looked to pull off a comeback in the top of the seventh inning when Keith and Riley Zana hit back-to-back singles to put the game-winning run on the plate. However, freshman Ally Wojciechowski was caught stealing third base which gave the Flames the third and final out to secure the 2-1 win.
Raelee Brabham (3-1) took her first loss in the circle giving up two runs off six hits during her 5.0 innings of work in the circle.
Game 2: Kansas 4, Coastal 1
Kansas looked to get on the scoreboard in the top of the third inning when a single, a Coastal fielding miscue, and a walk loaded the bases. Nicolette Picone was then able to hold firm and pitch her way out of the jam to keep the score at 0-0.
The Jayhawks opened the scoring in the top of the fourth inning when Addison Purvis slotted an RBI single up the middle to give Kansas a 1-0 lead.
The Chants responded in the bottom of the fourth when Indya Smith kicked off the inning with a leadoff double to center field. Freshman, Brie Normandin then stepped up to the plate and recorded her first collegiate RBI when she laced a single down the left field line to level the score at 1-1.
The Jayhawks regained control in the top of the fifth inning when a lapse in concentration from Keith allowed Presley Limbaugh to reach home to put Kansas back on top at 2-1.
Kansas put the nail in the coffin in the top of the seventh inning when Sophia Buzard belted a home run over the left field wall and Campbell Bagshaw smashed an RBI single through the left side to give the Jayhawks a 4-1 victory.
Picone fell to 1-1Â after giving up three runs off eight hits in her 6.2 innings of work.
The Chanticleers will return to the field tomorrow as they take on the Ohio State Buckeyes at 12:30 p.m. ET and the Penn State Nittany Lions at 4:30 p.m. ET.
