JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Coastal Carolina beach volleyball team opened up its 2024 season at the Jacksonville Invitational on Friday, falling 5-0 to No. 3 Florida State and sweeping Jacksonville 5-0.
Match 1: No. 3 Florida State 5, Coastal Carolina 0
The Chants faced the Seminoles in the first match of the season for the second consecutive year. After FSU took the first point of the day on court five, Madison Allred and Raychel Ehlers forced a third set on court four before ultimately falling 21–15, 18-21, 18-16. Florida State closed the match with wins on straight sets on each of the top three courts.
Match 2: Coastal Carolina 5, Jacksonville 0
Coastal responded with a gritty sweep of Jacksonville in the second match of the day as the Chants responded from losing three opening sets to blank the Dolphins. Madie Lichty and Denisse Morgenstern put CCU up 1-0 with a 21-19, 21-12 win on court five before the Chants' pairs at flights two, three, and four bounced back from being down a set to win. Ellie Hanford and Emma Kunaus rallied in particularly impressive fashion, surrendering just 10 points over the final two sets on court three in a 17-21, 21-4, 15-6 victory.
Coastal returns to the sand on Saturday to take on No. 13 FIU at 10:00 a.m. and Chattanooga at 2:00 p.m.
