CONWAY, S.C. - The Coastal Carolina women's lacrosse team is set to close out its three-game road trip tomorrow afternoon, as they visit the Elon Phoenix at Rudd Field.
History vs. Elon
The Chants are 1-8 all-time in their nine meetings with Elon, most recently in a narrow 16-15 loss at Brooks Stadium a season ago. Coastal's lone win over the Phoenix came in the form of another one score affair, a 15-14 win on the road in 2022.
About Coastal
In their previous outing, the Chants traveled to Davidson, N.C. to take on the Davidson Wildcats in their first midweek tilt of the new season. CCU got out to an early lead, building a 6-1 advantage at the 13-minute mark of the second quarter, led by an early hat trick from senior attacker Sydney McClure. After cutting the Coastal lead to one at the halftime break, Davidson was able to use a strong third period to claim the come from behind win, defending their home field with an 18-9 victory over the Chants.
As a team, Coastal has accumulated 44 goals on 69 attempts on goal so far this season, rounding out to a 52% shot percentage. Of those 44 goals, 27 have come off an assist. The Chants are averaging just shy of seven assists per game, which is good for a share of 33rd in the country with Virginia Tech. On the defensive end, Coastal has 62 ground balls, 25 caused turnovers, 55 draw controls 58 of 65 clear attempts to their credit.
Coming off her four-goal performance against Davidson, McClure now holds the title of leading goal scorer for Coastal with nine. Senior midfielder Monica Manley still falls in slightly behind McClure with eight goals this season to go with five assists.
About Elon
Elon sits at 3-1 on the season, currently on a two-game win streak after beating VCU and Furman 12-11 and 13-9, respectively. The Phoenix also defeated Old Dominion in their season opener 16-6 on the road, before suffering their first loss of the season to Queens 15-10.
Through their first four games of 2024, Elon has combined for 51 goals on 90 shots on target, coming off 20 assists. The Phoenix also rank 24th in the country in draw controls and 16th in draw control percentage at 16 and 62% per game.
