CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina softball team suffered a 9-2 defeat to the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets at St. John Stadium on Wednesday night.
The Yellow Jackets, who entered the game fourth nationally in home runs, blasted three long balls on the evening.
Georgia Tech opened the game with two quick runs on an RBI triple and a one-run single to make the score 2-0.
In the top of the third inning, GT tallied another run to its total when Reese Hunter cracked a solo home run over the left-center field wall to make the score 3-0.
The Yellow Jackets extended their lead in the top of the fourth inning when Maddison Dobbins belted her third grand slam home run of the year to put GT up 7-0.
Georgia Tech tacked two more runs in the top of the seventh inning when pinch hitter Jayden Gailey hit a two-run homer over the left field wall to increase the deficit to 9-0.
The Chants scored in the bottom of the seventh inning when
Maddy Jennings smashed a leadoff home run to put CCU on the board at 9-1. Singles from
Georgia Hood and
Jay Wrightsman then put runners on first and third base and pinch runner
Ally Wojciechowski was able to score on a fielder's choice, but GT ultimately took the victory, 9-2.
The Chants saw all five pitchers enter the circle, but
Raelee Brabham (12-5) took the loss, giving up two runs in her 1.2 innings of work.
The Chanticleers will hit the road to take on Louisianna in a three-game series on March 22-24 in Lafayette, La.
