CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina softball team will hit the road to take on the UNCW Seahawks on Wednesday. First pitch is set for 4 p.m. ET.
CHANTS LAST TIME OUT
- CCU went 5-1 at the Chanticleer Showdown earning wins against Power Five opponent Michigan State along with Oakland, Yale, and Iona.
- The Chants bagged a 10-2 victory over the Oakland Golden Grizzlies with the help of back-to-back home runs by Lucy Goodwin and Georgia Hood to close out the game.
- Nicolette Picone picked up her fourth save of the year to hold on to a 1-0 win over Yale. This amounted to her 12th career save which makes her Coastal's all-time saves leader.
- Raelee Brabham picked up three wins in the circle, striking out 18 batters in her 19 innings of work.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
- UNCW has a 9-8 record on the year and is currently sitting on a two-game losing streak after falling to Charlotte and No. 14 Kentucky.
- The Seahawks have delivered three shutout wins on the season but the Chants have doubled this with six on the year.
- CCU and UNCW have had two opponents in common in Furman and Michigan State. The Seahawks posted a 1-1 record versus Paladins and fell short to Michigan State while the Chants picked up wins against both teams.
- The long ball has yet to appear in the Seahawks arsenal this season but they have recorded four triples.
- Skylar Stockton leads the team with a .375 batting average, driving in five RBIs and posting a .509 on-base percentage.
- Graduate student Mary Sobataka will be one to watch as she leads the team in RBIs (9) and has reached base in 10 consecutive games.
- In the circle, Emily Winstead tops the pitching staff with a 1.54 ERA, posting a 3-1 record while recording 34 strikeouts.
HISTORY AGAINST
- CCU has a 72-22 series record versus UNCW.
- The Chants have won nine of the last 10 matchups while outscoring the Seahawks 46-23.
- Coastal will be looking to improve on their 27-11 record on the road.
- CCU has a six-game win streak versus the Seahawks and a three-game winning streak in road contests.
- During their last encounter in April 2021, Coastal recovered from a 4-0 deficit to take a 12-5 victory with help from an RBI triple from Riley Zana.
- There is a long history between UNCW and CCU, with their first meeting coming back in April 1987.
A WEEKEND OF FIRSTS
- Libby Pippin recorded her first home run versus Oakland and then went on to hit her second career homer in the following game to secure a 1-0 shutout win over the Yale Bulldogs.
- Delaney Keith was a whippet around the bases as she tallied a career-high two stolen bases versus Michigan State.
- Freshman Abby Henderson pitched her first complete game versus Iona where she gave up just one run while striking out three hitters.
- Brie Normandin recorded her first multi-RBI game when she cracked a two-run single versus Oakland on Sunday.
