Chants Back at Home to Face Binghamton on Wednesday

CONWAY, S.C. – Featuring in its first home game in nearly a month, the Coastal Carolina women's lacrosse team welcomes the Binghamton Bearcats tomorrow afternoon at Brooks Stadium, starting at noon ET and streaming on ESPN+.

History vs. Binghamton
Wednesday's meeting between the Chants and the Bearcats will mark the first time in program history the two have faced off on the gridiron.

About Coastal
The Chants are coming off a massive 8-7 win on the road against Elon in their previous outing on Feb. 24. Head Coach Rachel Shuck Whitten's group found themselves down 5-3 with 7:42 to play in the third quarter after an unassisted goal from the Phoenix's Anna Hackett. The Chants found a way back into the game down the stretch, outscoring Elon 5-2 over the remaining 22 minutes, led by timely goals from seniors Avery McIlwiane, Sydney McClure and Abi George and junior Brigid Cardillo. In the end, with just over five minutes left in regulation, senior Maddie Bates was the hero CCU required, putting her second goal of the day past Elon goalkeeper Caitlin Walsh and giving the Chants the decisive victory.

That win puts Coastal at 2-3 on the season less than a month from the start of ASUN Conference play vs. Lindenwood on Mar. 30.

Coming off her four-goal performance against Davidson, followed by adding two more against Elon, McClure leads the Chants with 11 goals to her credit this season, along with six assists and three ground balls. CCU has also received stellar performances from senior midfielder Monica Manley, who is second on the team with eight goals to go with five assists and three ground balls.

Goalkeeper Charlotte Sadler and Preseason All-ASUN selection Jordan Gertz continue to be the anchor in defense for Coastal, with Sadler recording 41 saves through five games and Gertz picking up five ground balls and forcing four opposition turnovers.

About Binghamton
The Bearcats, a team that went 11-6 on its way to an American East Championship appearance a season ago, currently sits at 4-2 thus far in 2024. Head Coach Stephanie Allen's team was picked to finish third in the American East preseason poll behind Vermont and reigning conference-champion Albany.

The Bearcats have scored 85 goals through their opening six games, including a season-high 22 in their win over Campbell. Junior midfielder Abigail Carroll features as Binghamton's leading goalscorer with 20 goals on just 29 attempts on target. Carroll also has a team-high nine assists and the third most ground balls with 11.
