CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina beach volleyball team hits the road again as the Chanticleers head to Tampa, Fla., for the Tampa Invite on Mar. 8-9. The Chants will play FGCU and No. 20 Tampa on Friday before taking on Houston Christian and No. 4 Florida State on Saturday.
YEAR ONE
The Sandy Chants are under the direction of first-year head coach
Collin Wilson. This season, Coastal has two wins over Chattanooga, a sweep of Jacksonville, and a victory over Sun Belt and in-state foe College of Charleston. The Chants have also battled nationally-ranked opponents in Florida State and FIU, falling 3-2 to the then-No. 13 Panthers.
WINNING STREAKS
Three Chanticleer pairs enter the weekend with winning streaks. No. 1 pair
Martine Kragholm and
Sarah Riedell and No. 3 pair
Ellie Hanford and
Emma Kunaus both have won their last three matches, while No. 4 pair
Madison Allred and
Raychel Ehlers have won two in a row. All three pairs boast a 5-3 record on the season.
COASTAL & FGCU HISTORY
The two teams will be meeting for the 12th time, as the Sandy Chants search for their first win in the series. The Eagles and Chants met twice last season with FGCU winning 3-2 and 4-1.
COASTAL & TAMPA HISTORY
Coastal Carolina has won both meetings against Tampa. The Chanticleers won a 4-1 decision against the Spartans last season.
COASTAL & HOUSTON CHRISTIAN HISTORY
CCU is facing Houston Christian for the first time in program history.
COASTAL & FLORIDA STATE HISTORY
The Sandy Chants have lost all three meetings with the Seminoles, including a 5-0 defeat in the season opener.
