Karg tied for second overall

PAWLEYS ISLAND, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina University women's golf team sits in a tie for fourth place at the Golfweek Intercollegiate after shooting a 10-over 294 Monday at the Caledonia Golf and Fish Club in Pawleys Island, S.C.

Hannah Karg led the Chanticleers on the opening day of action with a two-under 69 (34-35). The Germany native had a team-best four birdies and two bogeys on the day and added 14 pars. Karg finished the round tied for second while tying for the lead on par 3 scoring with a 2.60 scoring average. She was also tied for third in par 4 scoring with her 3.89 scoring average, while her four birdies were also tied for the most birdies in the opening round.

Sara Sarrion finishes her opening round tied for eighth with a one-over 72 (35-37). She shot an even-par 35 on the first nine holes and shot a one-over on the back nine. She added 15 pars in her round. She is also tied for first in par 3 scoring (2.60) and her 15 pars is the second-most pars after the opening round.

True freshman Varatkarn Kunkaew shot a four-over 75 (37-38) and had back-to-back birdies on holes four and five to highlight her first 18 holes, finishing her round tied for 31st.

Luisa Gibson finished her round tied for 64th at seven-over 78 (39-39), while Carolina Hortian shot an eight-over 79 (39-40) and is tied for 71^st, and her 4.50 par 5 scoring is tied for the third-best scoring average on the par 5s. Elan Fleetwood is playing as an individual and is tied for 89th after shooting a 10-over 81 (38-43).

On a day when none of the team's broke par, only 14 strokes separate the top 11 teams with Cal Poly leading the field after carding a five-over 289. High Point is only one stroke back with a six-over 290. USC Upstate is third at nine-over 293, while Austin Peay is tied with the Chants at 10-over 294.

North Dakota State (+11, 295) is sixth, and Ohio and Florida Gulf Coast are tied for seventh at 12-over 296. UNC Asheville is ninth at 14-over 298, and Florida Atlantic rounds out the top 10 with a 15-over 299.

UIC (+19, 303) is 11th and Georgetown is 12th at 24-over 308. St. Thomas and Fairleigh Dickinson are tied for 13th after shooting at 25-over 309 and Evansville is 15ht at 28-over 312.

The rest of the field includes Tennessee Tech (+29, 313), Winthrop (+30, 314) and Akron (+30, 314) tied for 17th with Marshall (+31, 315) rounding out the field.
