CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina women's lacrosse team (10-4, 3-0 ASUN) is set to close out their four-game road trip against the first-place Jacksonville Dolphins (5-8, 3-0 ASUN) tomorrow at 3 P.M. ET at Rock Stadium in Jacksonville, Fla.
History vs. Jacksonville
The Chants are 2-10 against Jacksonville in 12 previous meetings. Last season, Coastal lost 17-5 to the Dolphins at Rock Stadium. The two wins for CCU over Jacksonville include a 13-12 overtime win on the road in 2021 and a 12-8 win at Brooks Stadium in 2017.
About Coastal
The Chants are coming off a 21-14 win on the road over Queens (Charlotte) on Saturday, giving them their seventh consecutive win dating back to a 24-20 result against Mercer on Mar. 9. This latest win streak matches a previous program of seven consecutive victories during the 2017 season from Apr. 13 through May 5.
Following her second six-goal performance in the last three games in the win against Queens, senior forward Maddie Bates was named ASUN Player of the Week yesterday, the first Chant to receive the award this season. Last week, Bates continued her recent scoring tear, scoring 15 goals in the last three games, improving her season total to 29, one shy of leading goalscorer Sydney McClure with 30.
Preseason All-Conference midfielder Avery McIlwaine is chasing the milestone of 100 career goals, currently sitting at 97 with three games remaining in the regular season. McIlwaine also crossed the milestone of 100 career points and draw controls earlier this season.
Defensively, Coastal has allowed the second-fewest goals in conference play with 26 through three games, second only to Jacksonville with 23. Goalkeeper Charlotte Sadler has recorded 121 saves thus far this season, averaging over 8.6 per contest, which ranks 27th in Division I.
Coastal will look to cap off their four-game road trip with a win over the 3-0 Dolphins and claim sole possession of first place in the ASUN Conference before heading back home to face the Stetson Hatters on Sunday, Apr. 21.
About Jacksonville
Jacksonville enters the week with an overall record of 5-8, but has risen to the top of the ASUN standings, along with CCU, midway through this season's conference slate. The Dolphins defeated Stetson 13-11 in the conference opener on Mar. 23, followed by a pair of wins over Kennesaw State and Lindenwood at home.
Jacksonville features six players this season in double figures in the scoring department with Mackenzie Boyle leading the way with 19, Brianna Samuels and Ainsley Scruggs each with 17, Jenna Peed with 15, Allyz Berry with 11 and Lauren Ellis with 10.
