
Track and Field Set to Compete in USC Open

CONWAY, S.C. - The Coastal Carolina men's and women's outdoor track and field teams return to Columbia, S.C. for one final meet at the Creeger Track tomorrow on the campus of the University of South Carolina.
Last weekend, the Chants traveled to Gainesville, Fla. for the Tom Jones Invitational. The women's team finished the two-day meet with four placements inside the top-10 of their respective events, including Ebba Hedberg, Camryn Lorick and Meg Goebel each finishing in the top eight of the women's high jump, and sophomore Claire Spiller claiming third in the women's triple jump with a personal best final distance of 12.66m.
On the men's side, freshman Adam Groves recorded the highest finish of the invitational for the Chants with a first-place finish in the men's 5000m event with a time of 14:38.85. Senior Nehemiah Cionelo placed second in the same competition with a final time of 14:42.23. Senior Brendan Kovar and freshman Elliot Grayson recorded the other top-10 placements for this weekend's meet, with Kovar finishing fourth in the men's 47:34 and Grayson finishing 10th in the men's high jump 1.99m final mark.
This weekend, the USC Open performance list includes the likes of regional schools College of Charleston, The Citadel and Winthrop, as well as power five schools Clemson, Rutgers, Tennesse, Virgina Tech and host South Carolina.
The USC Open is set to start tomorrow morning at 10 A.M. ET with the women's hammer event, followed by the opening track event at noon ET with the women's 4x100m relay. The meet's final events will be the men's and women's 4x400m relay, with the women starting at 5:50 P.M. ET and the men at 6 P.M. ET.
