COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina beach volleyball team fell in both matches on day one of the Gamecock Grand Slam, dropping a 5-0 decision to No. 15 Georgia State before suffering a 3-2 setback to No. 10 LSU. 
 
The losses dropped Coastal to 22-8 overall on the season.
 
Match 1: No. 15 Georgia State 5, Coastal Carolina 0
 
Coastal opened the day against Sun Belt foe Georgia State. After GSU took the first two points of the day, Coastal rallied in the second sets as Julia Blazek and Emma Plutnicki forced a third set, along with Ellie Hanford and Emma Kunuas, before the Panthers closed the match with wins on the top three courts.
 
Match 2: No. 10 LSU 3, Coastal Carolina 2
 
The Sandy Chants suffered a close setback in the afternoon, falling 3-2 to No. 10 LSU. Trailing 1-0, Coastal fought back as Madie Lichty and Denisse Morgenstern earned the Chants' first point with a 21-15, 20-22, 15-13 win on court four. The No. 2 and No. 3 flights both went to third sets with the Tigers winning on court two and clinching the match on court one just moments before Emma Kunaus and Ellie Hanford picked up a 21-19, 15-21, 18-16 win at the No. 3 flight. CCU's narrow defeat marked the first time in program history that the Chants dropped a 3-2 contest to a top-10 opponent.

Coastal returns to the sand on Saturday to face No. 20 South Carolina at 11:00 a.m. and Jacksonville at 3:00 p.m.
