Chants Return Home to Face CofC

CONWAY, S.C. – The Coastal Carolina softball team is set to take on the College of Charleston Cougars for the second time this season at St. John Stadium on Wednesday. First pitch is set for 4 p.m. ET.
 
LAST TIME OUT
  • The Chants clinched a three-game Sun Belt Conference series against the Georgia Southern Eagles, 2-1.
  • CCU won the opening contest 4-1 with the help of long balls from Maddy Jennings and Iyanla De Jesus.
  • Coastal started strong in game two, taking the lead in the opening inning, but the Eagles came back to win 3-1 on a fielding error, home run, and an RBI double.
  • The Chanticleers won the series-deciding contest 6-2 on Saturday after De Jesus broke open the game with a three-run homer to secure the win.
  • Raelee Brabham recorded a season-high nine strikeouts and her 400th career strikeout on Thursday.
 SCOUTING THE OPPONENT 
  • CofC has an 8-22 overall record and is 2-10 in CAA conference play.
  • Brooke Marquez tops the team with a .292 batting average and 28 hits on the year, while Malaka Belser leads the Cougars with 19 RBIs.
  • McKenna Kelly leads the pitching staff with a 3.88 ERA and 33 strikeouts on the season.
  • During CCU's last matchup with CofC, Belser was the only Cougar to record a hit while Coastal's Brabham recorded six strikeouts in the outing.
  • The Cougars will be looking to snap a four-game losing streak after suffering a series sweep to Elon and a loss to Hampton.
  • Head coach Tracey Lynch is in her third season with the Cougars and has a 42-91 record.
 HISTORY AGAINST 
  • The Chants have a 52-25 all-time record versus the College of Charleston.
  • CCU is currently on a six-game winning streak versus the Cougars with two of the wins ending due to the run rule.
  • This is the second time the two teams have faced each other this season. The Chants delivered a 5-0 shutout to the Cougars on Feb. 21 with the help of home runs from Jennings and Delaney Keith.
  • Coastal averages 5.68 runs per game versus the Cougars and has outscored CofC 58-18 over the last 10 encounters.
  • CCU and CofC first met in April 1989 and the Chants took a 4-1 victory.
  • The Chanticleers have shut out the Cougars 12 times over their 77 meetings.
