Men's Golf Tied for Ninth at the Sun Belt Conference Championship

Chants only four strokes out of fourth place
MADISON, Miss. – The Coastal Carolina University's men's golf team is tied for eighth after shooting a 15-over 303 in the first round at the Sun Belt Conference Championship, Monday, at the Annandale Golf Club in Madison, Miss.
Playing the back nine first, freshman Jack Lee had an up-and-down day, shooting a three-under 33 on his first nine holes to lead the championship. The second nine was not as kind as Lee shot a four over to finish the first round tied for seventh with a one-over 73 (40-33). Lee was tied for seventh on par 4 scoring with a 4.00 scoring average and were tied for 10th with three birdies.
Seth Taylor also had a round that saw him bogey three of the first four holes he played, but was able to end the day with three consecutive birdies to finish the opening round tied for 19th with a three-over 75 (37-38). Taylor was solid in par 3 scoring with a 2.75 scoring average which was tied for second and his four birdies on the day was tied for the fourth most in the opening round.
Trey Crenshaw was only one shot back of Taylor, finishing his day with a four-over 76 (37-39) and is tied for 31st heading into the second round.
Trace McDonald finished tied for 54th with a seven-over 79 (39-40), while Garrett Cooper finished tied for 61st with an eight-over 80 (39-41). McDonald finished the round tied for second in par 3 scoring with a 2.75 scoring average.
After three rounds of stroke play, the top four teams will then have two rounds of match play. While the Chants finished the day tied for ninth, they are only four strokes out of match play in a crowded field.
Arkansas State sits atop the leaderboard after firing an even-par 288, while Troy is second with a nine-over 297 and Marshall and ULM are tied for third with an 11-over 299.
There is a three-way tie for fifth as Southern Miss, Georgia Southern and Louisiana all finished with a 13-over 301. James Madison is in eighth at 14-over 302, just one stroke in front of the Chants, Texas State and South Alabama, who all tied for ninth at 15-over 303.
Old Dominion and Georgia State are tied for 12th with aa 17-over 305, followed by Appalachian State at 23-over 311.
