Box Score Rome, Ga. - In a rematch from their meeting at the Stevens Tennis Complex on Mar. 29, the Coastal Carolina women's tennis team (14-9, 7-4 SBC) lost 4-0 to the South Alabama Jaguars (16-4, 8-2 SBC) today in the quarterfinals of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament in Rome, Ga.
South Alabama jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after winning the doubles point in a clean sweep. The Jaguars defeated Coastal's No. 1 and No. 2 doubles pairings of Anna Babayan and Jesse Hollins and Kata Foldeak and Cecile Morin by scores of 6-3 and 6-2, respectively. The No. 3 seed match between CCU's Nicole Abel and Aida Maria Mitrache and USA's Chems Doha Zeghlouli and Lara Van Der Merwe was left unfinished with the Jaguars leading 5-4.
In singles, South Alabama took the first three points in the first, second and fifth-seeded matches, completing the 4-0 sweep. Senior Kata Foldeak finished as the lone Chant ahead when the match was decided, leading USA's Manal Ennaciri 6-5 in the first set of the No. 4 seed match.
Following their exit from the conference tournament, the Chants will now look to the NCAA's selection for the National Tournament on Monday, Apr. 29.
